There's a great deal of history in the tradition-rich state of Pennsylvania.
On Saturday night, they'll be one more story to add to its annals.
Two of PA's greatest will square off in a highly anticipated final at the 2012 Powerade at 170lbs where Chance Marsteller (Kennard Dale) and Cody Wiercioch (Canon-McMillan), ranked #1 and #2 nationally, will do battle on Wiercioch's home floor.
Marsteller has been a national name before stepping foot on a high school mat as he competed (and won) matches above his age group, including bouts at the Nittany Lion Open as an 8th grader. He has only added to the legacy by winning two state titles, three Fargo Championships, a Super 32 title, and a Fila crown.
Wiercioch was a Western PA phenom coming into his high school career. He became the heaviest Freshmen to win a PA State Championship in March of 2010. But fans really began to take notice of Wiercioch nationally when he ousted Taylor Massa of Michigan, who was largely considered the best pound-for-pound wrestler in the country, en route to his Super 32 title in the Fall of 2011.
Across their high school careers, Marsteller has never lost a match. Wiercioch has lost to just one foe. On Saturday night, two PA legends will meet in a match that will live in the lore of high school wrestling both state-wide and nationally.
The match, along with the other 13 finals bouts which feature 14 total wrestlers ranked in the Top 5 in the country, can be viewed live on Flowrestling's Tech Wave platform. The finals will begin at 182lbs with the marquee Marsteller-Wiercioch bout serving as the grand finale. Existing Tech Wave members and/or new subscribers can view here at 7:30 ET tonight!
