Brute Wrestler of The Week
Willie Saylor, Editor
Throughout the season, Brute will bring you its National Wrestler of The Week. Wrestlers can be from any age level and will be selected based on their performances from the previous week only.
This week’s honor goes to Smyrna’s (DE), Brent Fleetwood who won his second straight Escape the Rock tournament. At 113lbs, Fleetwood, who also won Beast of the East this year, beat #10-Zach Fuentes (Norristown, Pa) in the semi’s. The finals was a rematch of last year’s ETR final. Once again Fleetwood beat State Champion, #13-Ethan Lizak (Parkland, Pa).
Other candidates that were considered this week:
Micah Jordan, St. Paris-Graham, OH - beat #2-Dean Heil to help pave the way for his SPG Falcons to knock of St. Edward.
Darian Cruz, Bethlehem Catholic, Pa - in what was billed as the premier bout of the Temecula Valley finals, Cruz made easy work of the 13th-ranked Isaiah Locsin (Live Oaks, Ca), 11-4.
Jake Taylor, Bald Eagle, Pa - the Super 32 and Flonationals Champ beat #6-Brett Harner, an Ironman and Beast of the East finalist, in the finals of Escape the Rock.
Boo Leewallen, Yukon, OK - majored State Champion Cody Karstetter in the finals of the Jay Hancock tournament.
Zahid Valencia, St. John Bosco, Ca - won a very deep 113lb bracket at Temecula Valley with a pin of Sean Williams in the finals.
