Brute Wrestler of The Week: Hanke to the Rescue
Willie Saylor, Editor
Throughout the season, Brute will bring you its National Wrestler of The Week. Wrestlers can be from any age level and will be selected based on their performances from the previous week only.
This week’s honor goes to Chad Hanke of Oregon St.
With his Beavers trailing 20-17 in the final bout of the dual, Hanke came through with the fall to give his #8 squad an upset win over #7-Cornell.
Hanke is quietly having a great Senior campaign. He’s currently 18-3 in Division I action and up to #4 in the latest Florankings.
Other candidates that were considered this week:
Nick Moore, Iowa - helped lead Iowa to a narrow dual win in Minnesota by beating #12-Cody Yohn, 8-2.
Simon Fraser Women - captured the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Championships, crowning six champs including 2012 World Silver Medalist, Helen Maroulis.
Tyler Cox, Wyoming - beat the 6th-ranked Trent Sprenkle (NDSU).
Jake Sueflohn, Nebraska - rallied to post a come-from-behind fall over Penn State’s Andrew Alton.
Ed Ruth, Penn State - posted an 18-3 technical fall over Nebraska’s 8th-ranked Josh Ihnen.
Shane Welsh, Lehigh - knocked off #11-Nick Lester to help the Mountainhawks upset the Sooners.
