National Preps Semi's Set!
National Preps Day II Preview
Willie Saylor, Editor
On the first day of National Preps things went pretty much to script on the team front.
On the individual side...not so much. Upsets were everywhere and top seeds falling were the norm, rather than the exception. Although no #1’s fell, and just one #2, the 3’s and 4’s didn’t quite fair to well.
Of the 56 Top 4 seeds, 42 were able to wrestle to their qualification. Just 5 of the 14 #4’s made it unscathed.
Top 4 Seeds That Didn’t Make Semi’s:
2 Seeds
Logan Harvich, Cape Henry, 106
3 Seeds
Steve Simpson, St. Mary Ryken, 113
Alex Rinaldi, Blair, 126
Geoff Verallis, Northfield Mt. Hermon, MA
Freddie Perrine, Peddie, NJ
4 Seeds
Christian Doyle, McKinney Christian, 126
Tyler Ponte, Seminary, 132
Michael Sprague, Georgetown, 145
Logan Breitenbach, Archbishop Curley, 152
Jack Wedholm, Blair Academy, 160
Travis Bradford, St. Thomas, TX 170
Zach Abey, Archbishop Spaulding, 195
Jake Anderson, Malvern Prep, 220
Viktor Pendchenko, New Church, HWT
On the team side, Blair Academy, the #1 team in the nation, still has all 14 of its wrestlers alive entering Day II, 10 of which remain in the title hunt. Their 174 team points are 28.5 better than Wyoming Seminary’s 145.5. The Knights have 9 on the front side and one in consolations. Good Counsel is in 3rd with 95 . McDonogh (86) is in 4th with John Carroll and Malvern Prep tied for 5th with 65.
Now the rubber meets the road. And with what occurred on Friday, who know’s what will happen in Saturday’s sessions.
