Throughout the season, Brute will bring you its National Wrestler of The Week. Wrestlers can be from any age level and will be selected based on their performances from the previous week.

This week’s honors go to Austin Mathews of Reynolds, Pa.

Mathews dominated #1-ranked Jake Short, a 4x State Champion from Minnesota, 8-2.

Ranked #7 coming in to the Dapper Dan, Mathews was the lowest ranked wrestler to knock off a #1. A 3x state finalist, Mathews was this year’s PA AA Champ. He has also been to finals at Ironman and Super 32.


Other Candidates:

TJ Fabian, Shoreham-Wading River, NY - defeated state champion, Anthony Giraldo, 8-4, at the NY-NJ “Pinning Down Autism” All-Star Match.

Aaron Bradley, Nazareth, PA - reversed the result from the Beast of the East finals with a beautiful low single in overtime against #1-Brooks Black at Dapper Dan.

Zach Beard, Tuttle, OK - scored three takedowns against #1-Cody Wiercioch to clinch the dual for Team USA at Dapper Dan.

Domenic Abounader, St. Edward, OH - rode out #1-Eric Morris in the third period at the Dapper Dan to win 1-0.
