Drexel Wrestling Announces New Recruiting Class
Philadelphia – Drexel University's Head Wrestling Coach Matt Azevedo
and his staff announced the addition of 11 student-athletes to their
2013-14 recruiting class. Alex Deciantis, Evan Disora, John Dutrow, Nick
Elmer, Zach Fuentes, Ben Grobman, Brandon Litten, Eric Ochoa, Austin
Rose, Tanner Shoap, and Geoffrey Verallis all committed to wrestle for
the Dragons next season.
Alex Deciantis, a Pennsylvania native from North Allegheny High School, will be joining Drexel for the 2013-14 season at 184. Also from Pennsylvania, Evan Disora and John Dutrow will join the squad. All three of these recruits were PIAA State place winners during their high school careers. Dutrow was also ranked 20th in the nation at 138 lbs by Flowrestling and is projected to wrestle at either 133 or 141.
Nick Elmer joins the Dragons from Penn Grove High School in New Jersey, where he placed seventh at both states and Flo Nationals. Drexel also adds Zach Fuentes from Norristown High School, who was ranked 10th in the nation by Intermat and 12th by Flowrestling. Fuentes placed in PIAA state competition three times, while also placing in the top-five at both the Beast of the East and the Ironman tournaments. He is projected to wrestle at 125 lbs for the Dragons.
Ben Grobman from the Haverford School will also add depth to Drexel's 125 slot. Brandon Litten, a Texas native from Marcus High School, placed second and fifth at states during his high school career and will wrestle at 197 for the Dragons. Eric Ochoa qualified at California states twice while at Northview High School before agreeing to compete for Drexel.
Austin Rose hails from Central Dauphin High School and, like Fuentes, has placed in the top-five at both Pennsylvania states and the Beast of the East tournament. Likewise, Tanner Shoap of Chambersburg High School placed three times at PIAA states while also earning 8th place finishes at both the Ironman and Beast of the East tournaments.
Drexel also adds Geoffrey Verallis of Northfield Mount Hermon School. Verallis is a three-time Prep New England Champion, three-time Prep All-American, and has placed fifth at the Beast of the East. He is projected to wrestle in the 141 weight class.
