Gabe Dean Earns Brute WOW After Beating Ed Ruth

This isn't a Staples commercial, but that was easy.

Lost in the madness of Dean beating Ed Ruth, who hadn't lost in almost 3 years, we forget that Dean upset Kevin Steinhaus as well at the Scuffle.  The Cornell Freshman had probably the crown jewel of upsets in a season rife with unthinkable results.

We saw tons of impressive and surprising results at the Scuffle, but the Freshman stole the show when he won a Scuffle title.  Credit the Cornell coaching staff for having the Freshman (who had been pinned in the first by Ruth earlier this year) confident and ready to take his match to Ed.

We all saw the Dean and Ruth match.  Here's his first upset when he beat Kevin Steinhaus.

Other Brute WOW Nominees: There were so many amazing performances, it made it hard to choose.  Really any champ could be a legit nominee.  The Scuffle is really a mini-NCAA's.  We went with the guys who exceeded expectations.

Sam Wheeler:  The Kent State Sophomore had an amazing run beating Steinhaus, Kelliher, Boyd, and Pfarr.  Falling only to Ruth and placing 3rd at the Scuffle.

Joe Spisak:  The unranked UVA 41 pounder had a great Scuffle.  He's always been tough, but one tough weekend got him out of the rankings.  I daresay beating Ugi, Small and Chris Dardanes in 3 straight matches and falling in OT to Zain will get him back in the rankings Tuesday.

Ian Miller: The high flying Golden flash is the second KSU guy on our list.  Miller ran quite a gauntlet to get to the finals of the Scuffle and only fell to Dieringer in Tiebreakers.  Miller's run included dominant wins over Ray Bethea, Kyle Bradley and a first period pin of Dylan Ness!
