Updated USA Greco P4P Rankings
Had an absolute blast at Greco Trials. Got an even better feel getting to pay closer attention to only Greco, whereas at the US Open I was trying to watch FS and Greco. Some big movement after last week with a number of upsets and great performances dictating many of the changes.
(#)-Represents their previous ranking which can be accessed here.
1. Spenser Mango (1)-Mango answered every question. Incredible from top.
2. Robbie Smith (2)-Big scorer and a big man. Great combo. Not your Grandpa’s heavyweight.
3. Justin Lester(3)-Took his ball and went home after clearing the way for his buddy. Ultimately he’ll be judged on his Fargo performance. No takeaways from trials one way or another. He may have a claim for the top spot, honestly.
4. Jordan Holm (4)-Darn near unstoppable looking. Love his attitude.
5. Andy Bisek (6)-Great gas tank, amazing on top. He left no doubt.
6. Caylor Williams (13)-A man amongst boys. A freak with tons of offense. Star potential.
7. RaVaughn Perkins (10)-What a weight he won and what a style this kid has. Completely fearless. Please get better from underneath.
8. Kendrick Sanders (9)-Going 80 at Fargo, he more/less held his position.
9. Sam Hazewinkel (19)-2 trials finals in a few weeks. #BossStatus
10. Bryce Saddoris (UR)-Shocked Ellis Coleman in dominant fashion, a point away from forcing match #3 with Perkins.
11. Jake Fisher (UR)-Could very well be the #2 in our country, beat Speiller twice.
12. Max Nowry (UR)-Fell 2-2 to Haze, beat Thielke. I was thoroughly impressed.
13. Ellis Coleman (7)-Fell short but wrestled back for third. He’s still a great talent.
14. Jesse Thielke (4)-Essentially lost to Engel, fell to Nowry and called it a day. Not his best showing, but he’s young and will bounce back. A tough lesson for the young star.
15. Toby Erickson (16)-He’s Trains Insayian, What else do you need to know? Got over the hump against Nye.
16. Jon Anderson (14)-Hard to evaluate considering he only beat Ortiz who went 0-2.
17. John Wechter (UR)-Ran into a buzz saw in the finals, but I can’t tell you how much I respect this guy. Orthopedic Surgeon and domestically elite Greco wrestler. Unreal.
18. Zach Nielsen (20)-Took out Provisor en route to a 2nd place finish.
19. Geordan Speiller (11)-Didn’t get the finish he was looking for but Fisher was just better. Still a unique talent, but needs to diversify.
20. Ben Provisor (18)-Wrestled back for 3rd after falling to Nielsen, going unscored upon in wrestlebacks.
