Finals Preview
The road to the Championship dual couldn't have been more dramatic. Down 9 with three bouts to go, Minnesota stormed a comeback against Michigan. Heading in to the last match, Minnesota trailed just 31-30 and Keegan Moore had a 7-0 lead before Ty Wildmo rallied for the win.
In the other pool, a see-saw battle looked to be heading Illinois' way. In the second to last bout, FILA Cadet Champ, Tim Young was dominating his match with highly ranked Lance Dixon before Dixon got a fall that would turn the dual and send Illinois to their first loss at JR Greco Duals since 2010.
This afternoon's line-ups for the the Championship Match, which will be streamed on Mat 2 Live on FLO PRO.
Day I Notes
There were no surpises as the finals of the four brackets at Junior Duals concluded Day I's Greco action. The top four seeds all dominated their opposition in the finals.
Illinois, Utah, Minnesota, and Oklahoma all rolled to victories. Though runners-up Michigan, Iowa, Florida, and Maryland will also enter the Championship Pool tomorrow.
Gold Pool A: Illinois, Oklahoma, Iowa, Florida
Gold Pool B: Utah, Minnesota, Michigan, Maryland
Bracket A: Illinois vs. Michigan
Final Notes: Illinois won 14 of 15 bouts, making it 28 of 30 on the day.
Semifinal Notes: Illinois lost just one bout in a 53-13 drubbing of MN Red. Michigan beat California 10 matches to 5.
Bracket B: Utah vs. Iowa
Final Notes: It was 25-13 about halfway through, but Utah then blanked Iowa, winning the last six bouts.
Semifinal Notes: Iowa actually lost more matches (8) than they won (7) in their semifinal win over Missouri, but made up for it in bonus points as four from the Hawkeye State collected falls.
Bracket C: Minnesota vs. Florida
Final Notes: Peter Nagy teched Mark Hall, but otherwise it was all Minnesota, 12 matches to 3.
Semifinal Notes: Minnesota won 13 of 15 vs. Michigan Red. Florida won 10 of 15 vs. Washington.
Bracket D: Oklahoma vs. Maryland
Final Notes: The dual opened up with top ranked wrestlers Lance Dixon and Josh Llopez. Dixon would get the fall and Oklahoma went on to win 12 of 15 bouts.
