112lbs, Super 32 2007, When "The Kid" Was Just a Kid.

Michigan State 125lber, Erik Olanowski brought home his Super 32 belt after navigating his way through this tough bracket.  The 2007 NHSCA national champion had a dominant road to his title.  He outscored opponents 31-4 while picking up three pins along the way.  In the round of 32, he pinned UNI All-American Joey Lazor.  After that match, Olanowski took on Virginia tech NCAA qualifier and multiple time Super 32 placer, Erik Spjut who he defeated 5-0 to advance to the semifinals against Shane Gentry.

After his 9-1 major over Gentry, Olanowski went on to win 5-3 in the final against a super tough Steve Mitcheff.  Mitcheff, a Kent State national qualifier, battled his way through this bracket after not being seeded. He picked up some quality wins over Zach Neibert and Michael Garafolo en route to the final.

Garofalo, NJCAA national champion, picked up arguably his best win with a 4-2 decision over Kyle Dake in the quarters. After that win he dropped his semifinal match to Mitcheff.  Dropping into the wrestle backs, Garofalo racked up back-to-back wins over Spjut and Lazor to take home bronze.

Another college stud, UNI’s Lazor, was pinned early on by Olanowski and dropped into the wrestle backs where he battled his way back with wins over Dake, Neibert and Gentry before falling to Garfalo and taking home fourth.

The last two medals went to Spjut and Gentry. These two future NCAA qualifiers wrestled to a 2-0 finish where Spjut came out on top.

Future four-time NCAA national champion, Dake, came up short on the way to claiming a medal. “The Kid” had made it to the quarterfinals before being downed by Garofalo, 4-2. When he dropped into the consolation bracket, he won his first match but was pinned by Lazor.

Lazor had a big win in the consolation round with an 8-6 decision over future V-Tech All-American, Zach Neibert.  Another tough kid who did not place that year was Corey Mock.  Mock, an eventual NCAA Qualifier for the Tar Heels, was knocked out of the championship bracket by Neibert.  He then lost his first consolation match which knocked him out of the tournament.
