OKST-IA Recap: Hawkeyes Invade GIA
The #1-Iowa Hawkeyes put their undefeated dual record on the line at Gallagher-Iba Arena as they take on the most decorated program in college wrestling's 6th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Here are some pre-match line-up nuggets

for the Hawks: 

- Tom Brands is sporting a glorious new hair cut.

- Nick Moore is out. It will be Patrick Rhodes at 165, in his first career dual appearance.

- Brody Grothus did not make the trip. Sorensen is confirmed at 149.

for the Pokes:

- Crutchmer is ruled out at 174. It will be either Torres or Rogers.

- Both Harding and Brian Crutchmer are listed as potential starter at 133.

Running Bout Notes and Results
125: #5-So. Thomas Gilman (Iowa) vs. #11-Jr. Eddie Klimara (OKST)
1st: Busy hands for Gilman early. Wrap arm for him 1min. in has Klimara bouncing on a leg and Gilman converts. Klimara earned an escape after :50RT. Gilman physical in front head and earns a go-behind for a 4-1 lead.

2nd: Klimara underneath. Gilman rides spiral before cutting him. A shot out of bounds and Klimara gets dinged for stalling. Gilman shoots/pushes Klimara out again and Klimara looks a bit gassed. Gilman's all over him and gets another takedown after a second stall call. 7-2.

3rd: Gilman down and out after :30. Shot Gilman and Klimara reshots for 2TD. Quick E1 and another stalling point. Gilman converts a knee pull with :45 left to make it 12-4. Gilman cuts him (RT is locked) and scores another. 

Final Score: Gilman md. Klimara, 15-5
Team Score: Iowa 4-0


133: #4-So. Corey Clark (Iowa) vs. Fr. GW Harding (OKST)
1st: Clark tries working a russian early. Low single attempt by Harding. Clark returns the favor and Harding is draped over top. Long scramble that Clark scores on at the halfway point.Harding out  in :16 and takes a shot, but Clark counters and has his second score. Klimara out right away again. Clark uses a russian to a near single but Klimara passes a leg and the period ends 4-2 w/ :38 RT.

2nd: Clark underneath. Scramble off the whistle and Clark gets the reversal. Harding out right away but Clark is chain wrestling like crazy and scores on another single. He works bars for a while but gets high and Harding reverses on the edge. Clark out and it's 9-5 at the end of two.

3rd: Harding down. Clark wants to ride. Drops to a leg and ref counts. No stalling as he's back on top and in control. He's using bars and powerhalf stuff.

Final Score: Clark dec. Harding, 10-5
Team Score: Iowa 7-0


141: #7-Sr. Josh Dziewa (Iowa) vs. #18-Fr. Dean Heil (OKST)
1st: Close single off the whistle for Heil. Dziewa feeds him some hips but Heil resets and converts. Dziewa out after two seconds. Heil takes a double from way outside, switches off to a single and  Dziewa tries to pass a leg but Heil scores again. Dziewa dinged a point for unnecessary roughness (couldn't see what it was). Heil rides out period and the fans appreciate it.

2nd: Heil on bottom. Dziewa with a good tight waste ride for the first :45 before they go oob. On the restart, Dziewa stops initial Heil explosion and sticks in double boots that has Heil on his belly. Good period for Dziewa.

3rd: Dziewa down and Heil kicks him loose. Dziew right in on a shot. Heil counters. Long scramble with Heil locked around the leg the wrong way. Stalemated at 1:05. Dziewa moving forward now and Heil takes a desperate shot. Dziewa puts him in a cowcatcher and...slow motion-like...turns him for the fall!!!

Final Score: Dziewa wbf. Heil
Team Score: Iowa 13-0


149: #6-Fr. Brandon Sorensen (Iowa) vs. #2-Sr. Josh Kindig (OKST)
1st: Not much action at all. Half shots were even at a premium.

2nd: Kindig down. Works his way out in :22. Sorensen slips an underhook and has two on the edge. Video review but upheld and Sorensen rides out 2-1.

3rd: Sorensen underneath and out. He's in on a shot and limp arms out of the whizzer. Kindig does the splits but the two is called and it's a 5-1 lead.

Final Score: Sorensen dec. Kindig, 6-1
Team Score: Iowa 16-0


157: #15-Sr. Mike Kelly (Iowa) vs. #18-So. Anthony Collica (OKST)
1st: Tie-ups through the first minute until Collica takes a low deep single. He gets height and scores. Collica kicks him loose after :23RT and then right back in on the same shot...out the back door for another 2TD. He gets high riding legs and Kelly swims out for the reversal. 4-3.

2nd: Kelly starts down.  Collica cuts him. Little action until Collica shoots a wrap arm. Kellyreaches for a a leg and he's in business...counter 2. 6-4 Kelly.

3rd: Collica cut loose. Collica shot but Kelly just dishes the hips and knocks him off balance and scores another counter takedown. Kelly just trying to ride. Collica granbies. Close to a reversal on the edge but they go oob. Late escape.

Final Score: Kelly dec. Collica, 9-6
Team Score: Iowa 19-0


165: Jr. Patrick Rhodes (Iowa) vs. #1-Jr. Alex Dieringer (OKST)
1st: Ringer wastes no time scoring immediately. Cuts him and beautifully knee pick. 4-2 halfway. Wrap arm scores. As does some sort of single + duck combo. 8-4.

2nd: Rhodes on bottom. Things get chippy with head slaps. Ringer runs through a double. One last TD and it's 12-6 to close the 2nd.

3rd: E1 earl and Dieringer scores a TD immediately. Shot Dieringer, reshot Rhodes, reshot Dieringer = beautiful = 17-8. Shot by Rhodes blocked off by Dieringer and he comes up with  an underhook he uses for a final TD.

Final Score: Dieringer md. Rhodes, 20-8
Team Score: Iowa 19-4


174: #2-Sr. Mike Evans (Iowa) vs. So. Jordan Rogers
1st: Evans really busy and heavy on the head. Constant forward pressure from him and when Rogers starts moving forward Evans hits a sweet Hi-C. He goes right into a cross wrist tilt for 3NF. After a restart, Evans goes is right back to that tilt for another set. Another tilt combo gets nim 2NF and just like that it's 10-0.

2nd: Rogers chooses down. (I swear. He did.). Evans works bar and half for 2NF on the edge. On restart, Rogers granbies and gets out. Another takedown has Evans up 14-1 and the roll-through tilt gets him the tech.

Final Score: Evans tf. Rogers, 17-1
Team Score: Iowa 24-4


184: #7-So. Sammy Brooks (Iowa) vs. #14-So. Nolan Boyd (OKST)
1st: Hi-C from Boyd and he gets Brooks lifted completely off the ground. But Sammy then bounces on a single, slips it out, reshots, and gets the two. Unreal. Brooks gets dinged for stalling with :15 left but rides out the last 1:32.

2nd: Brooks takes down. He's out early. Nice low single from him but Boyd passes a leg. Brooks eventual converts. Brooks then tries a body lock but Boyd catches him on his back. Can't get fall as time expires, but it gives him a 6-5 lead.

3rd: Boyd out early. Brooks shot blocked off. Over unders again and fans anticipating a big throw but they walk oob. Wrap arm by Boyd, but Brooks hustles out of it into a shot of his on. Then Boyd from from head circles and gets the 2 and the win.

Final Score: Boyd dec. Brooks, 9-6
Team Score: Iowa 24-7


197: #6-Jr. Nathan Burak (Iowa) vs. So. Luke Bean (OKST)
1st: Two minutes of not much and then Burak with a crisp Hi-C at tthe 1:00 mark. :30 later an escape and a low single by Bean but it's stalemated.

2nd: Bean up and out right away, but Burak works a single on the edge and gets his second TD. Bean gets an escape, but a flurry of Burak shots gets him dinged for stalling.

3rd: Burak out right away. Low single by Bean and tries to cut double, but Burak does the splits so well and gets out of danger. Another Bean shot - reshot Burak and blows throught it right near the buzzer.

Final Score: Burak dec. Bean, 7-3
Team Score: Iowa 27-7


285: #1-Sr. Bobby Telford (Iowa) vs. #4-Jr. Austin Marsden (OKST)
1st: Within 7 seconds, both wrestlers are penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. Telford in on a shot at 1:30 but Marsden splits and oob. Moments later, Telford gets in on another low shot and this time converts. 3-2 end of 1.

2nd: Telford on bottom. Out Early. Not much action until a Marsden Hi-C at the buzzer.

3rd: Marsden underneath. He's out in :15. Marsden double at :40 but Telford snaps to front head. Oob w/ :23. Marden trying to find space for a shot, but Telford ties him up.

Final Score: Telford dec. Marsden, 4-3
Final Team Score: Iowa 30-7
