Day 1 Results:
Andrew Howe (74KG) reached the finals before falling to Ahmed Gadzhimagomedov of Russia.  Last year Gadzhimagomedov was 2nd in both the World Cup and the Yarygin. In the semi's Howe beat Russia's Boris Makoev, who was the 2013 NYAC runner-up to Nick Marable.

Howe lost 2-2, though there was reportedly a questionable call. The following is how United World Wrestling described it:

"Though the day was a triumph for the Russians, it didn’t come without controversy. At 74kg Andrew HOWE (USA) was in late on a double leg against Ahmed GADZHIMAGOMEDOV (RUS), but with the points seemingly locked up the referee stopped the action for an illegal hold. After the American coaches failed to challenge, the match ended 2-2, with Gadzhimagomedov winning by largest technical maneuver."

Winning the only other Men's weight to be contested on Day I was Russian star Viktor Lebedev (57KG), a former World Champion.

Day II draws for the U.S. and full Day I brackets will be posted here as soon as possible.

Highlights include the 65 KG bracket where we could see a potential Metcalf and Pico matchup.  That will likely require significant success on both guys part for it to go down.  Iowa teammates McDonough and Ramos are both set to compete in the 57 KG bracket as well.  Jake Herbert continues his comeback and will test his mettle at 86KG alongside Phil Keddy.  Tervel Dlagnev is competing at 125 KG and Andrew Howe is rolling at 74!
