Ed Ruth is on the move. The 3 time NCAA Champion for Penn State is headed West to train for Olympic Gold.
Ruth, a 2014 graduate of Penn State had been training in State College since graduation. He’s decided to make the move to Arizona State to train through the 2016 Olympic Games as a member of the prestigious Sunkist Kids.
This move represents a continuous move towards relevancy for the Sun Devil wrestling program. Several years ago the program was on the chopping block. Now ASU has likely the #1 recruiting class in the country. A crop anchored by the Valencia Brothers and Lance Benick, the upper weight talent is tremendous in both NCAA athletes and coaches. That’s without factoring in Ed, arguably our best 86KG in the United States.
Zeke Jones continues to surround his program with both elite talent and coaches. Jordan Oliver and Chris Pendleton joined the ASU staff and both are still in the midst of their competition years.
Ed will not only have his share of training partners, but he’ll also be under the leadership of Zeke Jones. Jones the former USA National Team Coach for Freestyle had great Olympic success at the 2012 games when Jake Varner and Jordan Burroughs brought home Gold, while Coleman Scott won Bronze.
Zeke Jones had this to say about the addition of Ed Ruth:
"When you look at the history and tradition of the Sunkist Kids Wrestling club, you know the system is in place to win World and Olympic Champions. From John Smith to Cael Sanderson to Kevin Jackson; Art and Kim Martori have created a system that wins. Ed is joining the Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club to win World and Olympic Titles."
"To get the Gold Medal it comes down to the right training environment. We believe we have the system to get him to the next level. Ed will improve and everyone around our program will improve as well."
Here's a glimpse of the talent headed to Tempe!
