FloWrestler of the Week: Daton Fix, Oklahoma
FloWrestler of the Week: Daton Fix, Oklahoma
Daton Fix has been having the time of his life lately.
This month has been especially good to Fix. The list of competitors that he has beaten, which includes Minnesota’s Ethan Lizak, Oregon State’s Ronnie Bresser and Northwestern’s Stevan Micic, is impressive enough for a high school sophomore.
Now he’s added a pair of wins over returning top-ranked Cadet World Champ Spencer Lee to the list. In the best-of-three series, Fix came from behind twice to defeat Lee and claim the 54kg World Team spot.
The Oklahoma native came in as the underdog and left as the top dog. And for that Daton Fix is our FloWrestler of the Week.
Holmes’ pick: Gable Steveson, Minnesota
Was as dominant as they come as he collected the 100kg title and World Team spot. Steveson dominated Cadet World Silver Medalist Jordan Wood in the semifinals with an impressive 8-1 victory as well as handling FloNational runner-up Luke Ready in the quarters. In the finals ha barely even broke a sweat as he beat Kobe Woods by a combined score of 21-1 in the best of three series.
Bratke’s pick: Anthony Collica, Oklahoma State
Took home the 70kg title with great wins over Iowa’s Brandon Sorensen in the semis and two-time All-American Jason Tsirtsis in the finals.
Willie’s pick: Ethan Ramos, North Carolina
Was able to tame the dragon that is Ian Miller in the finals with a fall in 4:11. Before capping off his University title run he defeated Nestor Taffur and Chris Dowdy in the quarters and semis, respectively.
CP’s pick: Hayden Zilmer, NDSU
Claimed the title in a tough 86kg bracket. Zillmer recorded wins over Blake Stauffer, Pat Downey in the quarters, Ryan Loder in the semis and Ethan Lofthouse in the finals.
