ItÂ’s official. Evan Henderson is changing weight classes The Senior, 2-time All American for UNC has spent his career wrestling at 141 pounds, but it appears that pull has proven to be a bit too much. Henderson is registered at 149 pounds for the 2015 Southern Scuffle.
Henderson didnÂ’t weigh in against ODU a few weeks ago. Soon after word began to spread that Evan could be making a weight change. Henderson is currently ranked 7th at 141 pounds. He began the year as a preseason #1 at 141 but suffered losses to both Joey McKenna and Anthony Ashnault in November.
The move may not only make sense for Henderson, but also UNC as a whole who now finds room for a previously top 10 ranked Joey Ward at 141 pounds.
At 149 Henderson likely slots somewhere in the 4-7 range in the ASICS FloRankings. Obviously his performance at the Southern Scuffle will have a huge impact on that ranking. The field at 149 is strong with #1 Retherford, #6 Cobb and #8 Anthony Collica registered to compete January 1st and 2nd at the Southern Scuffle (Live on FLO).
But wait there's more.
UNC All American Ethan Ramos is also making a change. He and teammate John Michael Staudenmayer will be swapping weights. Ramos will be wrestling at 174 and Staudenmayer at 165. Ramos is currently ranked 5th at 165 pounds and placed 6th as a Freshman at NCAA's in 2015. Ramos' lone loss on the season came at the hands of Rutgers All American Anthony Perrotti.
