FloWrestler of the Week: Jason Nolf, Penn State
Jason Nolf has officially put the wrestling world on notice that he can beat anybody.
The winning streak is over. And it came to a screeching halt thanks to Jason Nolf.
Isaiah Martinez looked absolutely unstoppable going into Illinois’ dual meet against Penn State on Saturday. However, none of that mattered to Nolf as he showed the returning undefeated NCAA Champ that he was not going to be leaving with an undefeated record.
The redshirt freshman put pressure on IMar and hand fought hard from the opening whistle. He also out-scrambled Martinez early on to come up with the initial takedown of the bout. But it was the scramble in the second period where Nolf managed to take control and hold IMar on his back to get the fall in 4:55.
Naturally, all eyes were on the match with the result getting some great reactions from former Nittany Lions Ed Ruth and David Taylor.
But it was the incredible streak-stopping fall that makes Jason Nolf our FloWrestler of the week.
Chase Singletary, Blair: Came through with a huge overtime win over #1-Nick Reenan as Blair knocked off top-ranked Wyoming Seminary on Sunday.
Nolan Boyd, OK. State: Put together an undefeated weekend which included a 7-2 win over #5-Willie Miklus to help Oklahoma State put an end to Missouri’s 37-match win streak.
Blaise Butler, Missouri: Collected an overtime upset win over #4-Kyle Crutchmer during Friday's dual between the Cowboys and the Tigers.
