Dave Schultz Memorial Women's Preview
Dave Schultz Memorial women's freestyle preview. Epp Mae Victoria Anthony Clarissa Chun
The 2016 Dave Schultz Memorial has special importance. The highest medaling American, that is not already qualified, will earn a berth at the 2016 Olympic Team Trials held in Iowa City, Iowa April 9-10. Check out the women's freestyle breakdown below. Keep in mind that only Olympic weights are being contested. Catch all the action live right here.
1. Clarissa Chun
2. Victoria Anthony
3. Cody Pfau
4. Erin Golston
Already Qualified:
Clarissa Chun
Victoria Anthony
Erin Golston
Nicole Woody
Cody Pfau
Breonnah Neal
Candice Workman
Pick To Win:
A late shot clock violation was the difference between Clarissa Chun and Victoria Anthony at the Bill Farrell in November. I believe these two will meet in the finals and I am taking Victoria Anthony to win this time.
Looking To Qualify:
Sarah Allen and Arelys Valles are both looking to secure a qualifying spot. That will be a difficult task with so many accomplished wrestlers in the field. If either is able to medal they will secure the qualifying spot.
1. Sarah Hildebrandt
2. Deanna Betterman
3. Katherine Fulp-Allen
4. Jade Parsons
Already Qualified:
Deanna Betterman
Jessica Medina
Katherine Fulp-Allen
Sarah Hildebrandt
Pick To Win:
Sarah Hildebrandt was inside of a minute from being in the US National finals with a win over Michaela Hutchison. She didn’t close that bout out, but I expect her to get the win here. In Las Vegas she had wins over Medina, Fulp-Allen and Betterman whom are all in the field today.
Looking To Qualify:
Amy Fearnside is the only American not yet qualified. She needs to win a medal here to do so.
1. Kayla Miracle
2. Maya Nelson
3. Randi Beltz
4. Jenna Burkert
Already Qualified:
Jenna Burkert
Kayla Miracle
Maya Nelson
Becka Leathers
Sally Roberts
Pick To Win:
Kayla Miracle qualified for the trials with her 3rd place finish at the Bill Farrell. In NYC she finished ahead of most of the field that is present here at the Dave Schultz Memorial. She defeated Maya Nelson there twice. I like her to take home the title from Colorado Springs.
Looking To Qualify:
Areana Villaescusa, Koral Sugiyama, Trinity Griffin and Rosemary Flores are all looking to qualify. I expect Griffin to be the main contender to come out of this group.
1. Amanda Hendey
2. Jennifer Page
3. Mallory Velte
4. Anastasija Grigorjeva
Already Qualified:
Jennifer Page
Mallory Velte
Amanda Hendey
Pick To Win:
Anastasija Grigorjeva has a long resume with world medals and a European championship. I feel confident picking her to win the championship
Looking To Qualify:
Hannah Gladden and Lorie Ramos have a tough field to go through to secure a qualifying spot. Remember the highest American non-qualifier has to be a medalist in order to qualify.
1. Veronica Carlson
2. Julia Salata
3. Brittney Roberts
4. Forrest Molinari
Already Qualified:
Veronica Carlson
Katerina Lobsinger
Julia Salata
Forrest Molinari
Pick To Win:
Julia Salata defeated Molinari at the Bill Farrell at 69kg. They both placed third at US Nationals, but Salata was up at 75kg. She returns back to 69kg and I have her winning the bracket.
Looking To Qualify:
jessika Rotter, Courtney Tomkins, Brittany Roberts, Ida Bernstein, and Michelle Organ are trying to get on the medal stand to qualify for Iowa City.
1. Iris Smith
2. Epp Mae
3. Victoria Francis
4. Justina DiStasio
Already Qualified:
Iris Smith
Victoria Francis
Pick To Win:
Epp Mae won a bronze medal in Las Vegas at the World Championships and took home a title from the Golden Grand Prix. I am picking to her win, but she should have a tough final bout against Smith or DiStasio from the top side of the bracket. Both have world championship experience. Smith even has a world title on her resume from 2005.
Looking To Qualify:
Anastasia Lobsinger, Tanya Kusse, and Clarc Walker are shooting for the medal stand and the qualification spot against this tough international field.
