Sources indicate that Columbia Head Coach Carl Fronhofer is stepping down as Head Wrestling Coach.

Coach Fronhofer has been on staff at Columbia since 2008. He became the program's head coach in 2011 when Brendan Buckley accepted the job at Cal Poly. He was an All-American for Pittsburgh, where he graduated from in 2003.

If true, Columbia would be the 2nd available Head Coaching position alongside Boise State. Boise State's job came available after the firing of longtime coach Greg Randall.

In 5 years at the helm, Fronhoffer sent 17 athletes to NCAA's with Steve Santos being the lone All-American finisher for the Lions. All 3 NCAA qualifiers are set to return for the Lions 2016-2017 campaign. Remaining staffers include Steve Santos, Roman Fleszar and Joe Nord.

"It was an absolute privilege to coach the sport I love at one of the best universities in the world," Fronhofer said to Columbia Athletics. "The thing I'll remember the most is the great relationships I've built with the players, coaches and administration. Right now, this is the best move for my family and I."
