It has been speculated and even predicted that Isaiah Martinez would be changing weight classes for the upcoming season. On FloWrestling Radio Live today, it was predicted that Martinez would be making the move up from 157 to 165.
The two-time NCAA Champ took to twitter to set the record straight and also seemed to give a little friendly advice to his future competitors.
The landscape at 165 becomes incredibly deep when you consider who will be back at 165 and who will be entering the fray at 165. Though Alex Dieringer has graduated, 165 still leaves behind (barring additional weight changes) Isaac Jordan, Bo Jordan, Daniel Lewis as three of the top four finishers. Additionally, PSU stud Freshman Vincenzo Joseph will likely be adding to the depth here at 165. For a better look at who will be back, check out last years NCAA Brackets here.
Martinez is reportedly planning on competing at Universities this June in Akron at 74kg (163.5). This would give us a glimpse at how the NCAA superstar looks against others in the 165 pound range.
FloWrestling was able to produce a two episode FloFilms series about the amazing life and successes of Isaiah Martinez:
To Hell And Back (Episode 1)
To Hell And Back (Episode 2)
IMAR wins his 2nd NCAA title against Jason Nolf.
