Day I Women's Junior Worlds Match-Ups
Day 2 draws for Junior Worlds Women.
Day 2 of Greco didn't go quite as well for the Americans as we would have hoped. The U.S. went 1-4 with Nick Reenan earning the lone victory. Greco closes out their Junior World tournament with a collective 10-9 mark with two Bronze medals.
We now turn our attention to the ladies, where a talented and experienced squad will kick things off on Day 1.
Marina Doi (6), Kayla Miracle (5), Alexis Porter (3) have combined for 14 World Championship appearance while first-time Team Member Brenda Reyna has been knocking on the door for the past few years. We take a look at their paths to medals below.
44KG - Marina Doi, California
A 4x World Medalist, Doi has a small bracket but faces a stiff challenge in her opening match when she'll face last year's Cadet World Silver medalist, Obed Solis Perez (MEX). It's a tough but winnable match. Doi would then see Veronika Gurskaya (RUS), who took Bronze at both the 2013 and 2014 Cadet Worlds. The other quarter features Divya Tomar (IND), who was 5th in Cadets last year and Svetlana Ankiicheva (KAZ), who was 5th at Juniors last year and is a 3x Cadet World medalist.Watch Marina's opening round opponent in her Cadet World final from 2015
51KG - Brenda Reyna, Washington
Like Brenda, her first round opponent is making her World debut. Hilary Honorine (FRA) won Silver at Euro Juniors this year. Her second round match will likely be Belarussian Fatima Sidakova whose highest place at Worlds in four attempts has been 8th.In all likelihood, it will be 3x medalist and returning Bronze Ksenia Nezgovorova of Russia reaching the semifinals from the other half of Brenda's bracket.59KG - Kayla Miracle, Indiana
Entering her third Junior World Championships, the 2x World medalist Miracle opens as a heavy favorite over Hungary's Viktoria Vilhelm. In the quarters she's likely to have Junior Euro Runner-Up Emma Johansson of Sweden. The frontrunner to reach Kayla in the semifinals is last year's Cadet World Champion Anzhelina Lysak of Ukraine.Watch Kayla's controversial loss last year at Worlds
67KG - Alexis Porter, New York
Porter made a Cadet World team in 2013 and the Junior team in 2014, finishing 12 both times. He first opponent will be last year's Cadet World 5th placer, Enrica Rinaldi of Italy. Up next is Svetlana Velesyuk, who took 3rd in Russia's Senior Nationals. The top contender in the other quarter is Asian Champ Yue Han.Junior World's Content:
