Nathan Tomasello Sheds Light On His Weight For Next Season
Nathan Tomasello offers his thoughts on whether he will stay up at 133 or drop down to 125 for his last season at Ohio State
Nathan Tomasello will be entering his final year of eligibility for Ohio State this fall, and is as focused as ever on winning a national title. He was national champ in 2015 at 125 pounds, and followed that up with a third place finish at the same weight in 2016.
Moving up to 133 this year, Tomasello was the undefeated top seed heading into NCAAs, but wound up getting third in St. Louis. He earned the same place at the U.S. Open earlier this month, with his only loss coming on criteria in the semifinals to eventual champ Tony Ramos.
NaTo clearly has freestyle aspirations after his collegiate career is over, so much so that it may affect which weight he decides to go next year. There had been speculation he may drop down to 125 with the news that Jose Rodriguez will be transferring, but it may be more dependent on what the new senior level weights will be.
In an interview with Steelwood Radio, Tomasello mentions his desire to drop to 125 if the lowest weight classes remains 57kg and 61kg. However, if they change to something akin to the old weights of 55kg and 60kg, there is a much stronger possibility he will stay at 133lbs.
The interview is wide-ranging and covers a bunch of topics, but the weight discussion in particular starts around the 41:00 minute mark.
