It's Official: Nick Suriano Is Going To Rutgers
Nick Suriano will be wrestling at Rutgers in 2017 after the 125lb rising sophomore's Big Ten waiver was approved to transfer from Penn State and compete immediately.
Nick Suriano is heading back to his home state of New Jersey, according to NJ.com. The 125lb rising sophomore is leaving Penn State and transferring to Rutgers.
The most interesting part of NJ.com's report is that Suriano will be eligible to compete right away for the Scarlet Knights. It was long discussed if Suriano would have the opportunity to wrestle immediately or if he would have to lose a year of eligibility. The Big Ten waiver has apparently been approved, allowing Suriano to wrestle this season with no eligibility penalty. This gives Suriano three years to compete for the Scarlet Knights.
Suriano set a New Jersey high school record during his time at Bergen Catholic, where he won four state titles in four different weight classes with a perfect 159-0 career record.
Before suffering a season-ending ankle injury against Oklahoma State's Nick Piccininni in February, Suriano only had one lone loss on the season (against Thomas Gilman) and owned wins over both 125lb NCAA finalists, Darian Cruz and Ethan Lizak.
