Austin DeSanto Going Right Away For Drexel
Austin DeSanto Going Right Away For Drexel
Austin DeSanto will be competing right away for Drexel this year.
Ausin DeSanto may have had one of the best finishes to a high school career we've seen in a long time. In March, DeSanto accomplished his goal of winning a Pennsylvania state title and took out the reigning champion Spencer Lee in the process. DeSanto followed it up by dominating four-time California state champ Justin Mejia at the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic and is now setting his sights on the NCAA's 133-pound division as a true freshman at Drexel.
DeSanto is entering a weight class where most of the top 20 is returning. That includes 2017 NCAA runner-up Seth Gross, who currently sits atop the preseason rankings, and All-Americans No. 2 Stevan Micic, No. 3 Kaid Brock, and No. 4 Scotty Parker. Also in the mix will be Ohio State's ninth-ranked returning NCAA qualifier Luke Pletcher, who is coming down after filling the spot at 141 last year due to Ke-Shawn Hayes being sidelined by injury.
Also, returning 125-pound AA Jack Mueller is moving up to 133 along with Connor Schram.
DeSanto has an in-your-face style that he uses to push the pace and break his opponents. It will be interesting to see how that will translate to the college level, especially in a weight class where there are plenty of returning ranked competitors.
