Iowa City Duals: Hawkeyes Host Iowa Central, Buffalo, NDSU In Home Opener

The Iowa wrestling team kicks off its home schedule this Friday by playing host to Iowa Central, Buffalo, and North Dakota State at the annual Iowa City Duals, streaming LIVE on FloWrestling.

This will be the first look that wrestling fans will have at the Hawkeyes' 2017-18 dual lineup. Iowa begins the season at No. 9 in the team rankings. I can't remember the last time I saw the Hawkeyes ranked that low to start the season, but it will be fun to see if they can climb in the rankings and bring home an NCAA team trophy.

In 2007, Tom Brands' first year as head coach, Iowa finished eighth at the NCAA Championships. Since then, only once have the Hawkeyes not brought home a team trophy.

Iowa NCAA Finishes Under Tom Brands:

2007 — 8th
2008 — 1st
2009 — 1st
2010 — 1st
2011— 3rd
2012 — 3rd
2013 — 4th
2014 — 4th
2015 — 2nd
2016 — 5th
2017 — 4th

On Friday, we will see the Hawkeyes compete in a new and improved Iowa City Duals. Last year, Iowa has started its season by hosting non-Division I teams in Iowa Central and Cornell College. The Hawks dominated both of those squads by a combined score of 100-0 between two duals.

This year we will see a couple of new DI schools get things started at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The North Dakota State Bison and Buffalo Bulls will join the junior college Iowa Central Tritons.

While the Hawks will be favored in all three duals, we should see some more competitive matches in the hotbed of wrestling. Here is what the lineups could look like for those duals:
