8 Reasons Why You Can't Miss Reno

Over the years we've seen a lot of great matches go down at the Reno Tournament of Champions.

For example, last year Boo Lewallen upset NCAA finalist and All-American Bryce Meredith in the 141-pound finals. And while a rematch between the two of them would be incredible, they are at different weights this season.

However, there are still plenty of reasons why you can't miss the latest edition of Reno's college tournament on Sunday.

Flames At 141

This weight is going to be amazing and may provide a glimpse of what to expect at NCAAs in Cleveland this year. Kevin Jack and Bryce Meredith are all slated to be here, and while we can very well see the 3,000th meeting between these two, Missouri's Jaydin Eierman will add his awkwardly slick style to the mix.

In addition to that trio of All-Americans, we will get another look at freshman Kaden Gfeller. Gfeller met Eierman earlier this year and got a tough welcome to college wrestling from the Mizzou Tiger. But Gfeller proved that he can battle with the best of them. It's possible that we are looking at a Gfeller versus Jack and Meredith vs. Eierman semifinal round.

Lastly, don’t sleep on Matt Findlay, a former Fargo champ, and Navonte Demison, ASU's highly talented freshman, either at this weight.

Daton's Debut

We've waited for a long time to see junior world champion Daton Fix hit the college mats and now the wait is over. Fix is wrestling at 125, where he will be challenged by No. 8 Sean Fausz of NC State and Oregon State's Ronnie Bresser, who is making his first collegiate appearance of the season. Another talented Arizona State youngster in Brandon Courtney will be here as well.

Fresh Start With New Teams

Emilio Saavedra and Nathan Boston will scrap for their new teams at 133. Boston is a transfer from Iowa State and Saavedra made his way back to his home state of California after wrestling for Old Dominion.

Now with Saavedra at Fresno State and Boston with Campbell they will look to prove their worth at 133 in their new school colors.

Tsirtsis Returns

NCAA champ and multiple-time AA Jason Tsirtsis is back and making his season debut. Although he attempted to crack the lineup at 157 pounds, it looks like he's back down to his old weight at 149. He can face a very big test in Oklahoma State hammer Boo Lewallen.

Who Can Stop Hidlay?

Hayden Hidlay is rollin'! The cat hasn’t lost yet. Fresh off an upset win over No. 7 Tyler Berger, Hidlay sets his sights on the field at 157 in which AA Paul Fox, Archie Colgan, and Clay Ream await.

Dominant Daniel

Daniel Lewis has been having a bonus party. So far this season he's got a perfect undefeated 13-0 record with eight falls, two majors, and a tech. His amazingly strong top game, by which he does everything but bust out a saddle as he racks up riding time, has kept him rolling of the competition.

Must-See Marsden

Andrew Marsden is electric every time out. You never know what the score will be, but you know that when it's all said and done there will be a bunch of points on the board. He could either be at 184 or 197 this weekend. If he's at 184, waiting in the bracket is NC State's Nick Reenan and Pete Renda, who will also be in the mix.

Is Dhesi Back?

Oregon State redshirt senior Amarveer Dhesi is on the team roster for the tournament, and the heavyweight could be making his return after being sidelined by injury.
