Live updates for the 55th Midlands wrestling tournament from the quarterfinals!
It's quarterfinal time! The final eight wrestlers per weight class with a shot at a tile. We'll keep you posted with mat assignments and results from the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. You can also the action LIVE ON FLO. And yes, we do indeed have FloZone!

Mat 5: Nick Suriano (Rutgers) vs Zeke Moisey (West Virginia) - Moisey is a former NCAA runner up while Suriano missed the NCAAs last season with an injury as a true freshman. Suriano in command 4-0 going into the 3rd. Suriano wins 5-0 over a national finalist.
Mat 6: Sebastian Rivera (Northwestern) vs Devin Schroder (Purdue) - A very slow match so far, Rivera leads 1-0 going into the third. Rivera prevails with a 3-1 victory.
Mat 7: Ronnie Bresser (Oregon State) vs Luke Welch (Purdue) - Bresser jumps out to a huge first period lead. It's 9-1 in the second now. Welch makes it a match but Bresser wins 11-7.
Mat 8: Spencer Lee (Iowa - UNAT) vs Sean Russell (Edinboro) - Spencer Lee is a cadet and junior freestyle world champ wrestling in just his second NCAA folkstyle tournament. Russel was an All-American last year, finishing 7th for Edinboro. Lee dominating early and often. It's 13-0 in the second. Lee keep his sheet clean, it's a 15-0 tech fall.

Mat 5: Seth Gross (South Dakota State) vs Ali Naser (Arizona State) - Gross ahead 3-0 at the start of the second. Gross pours it on in the second period and secures a 16-0 tech fall.
Mat 6: Paul Glynn (Iowa) vs Dylan Duncan (Illinois) - Duncan with the 2-1 lead and almost a minute of RT going into the 2nd. Duncan extends his lead. And it looks like he'll take it, and he does.
Mat 7: Korbin Myers (Edinboro) vs Bryan Lantry (Buffalo - UNAT) - Myers leading 4-2 after 3 minutes. They go back and forth. It's 7-5 Lantry at the start of the 3rd. Lantry manages to hold on, he wins 7-6.
Mat 8: Micky Phillippi (Pittsburgh) vs Scott Delvecchio (Rutgers) - DelVecchio has a 2-1 leads and 41 seconds of RT going into the 3rd. DelVecchio runs the score to 6-2 and advances.

Mat 5: Mason Smith (Central Michigan) vs Colton Schilling (Cal Poly) - Schilling has a 1-0 in the 2nd in a low scoring match. The #1 seed Smith breaks thinks open in the 3rd and has a 6-1 lead. It's 10-1 now at the start of the 3rd. Smith wins 11-1 by major.
Mat 6: Carter Happel (Iowa) vs Tyler Smith (Bucknell) - Smith races out to a 4-1 lead in the first. Smith extends his lead and cruises to win by major 11-3.
Mat 7: Cole Weaver (Indiana) vs Yahya Thomas (Northwestern - UNAT) - Thomas with a late TD in the 1st and has a 2-0 lead going into the 2nd. Weaver storms back to take the match 6-3.
Mat 8: Nate Limmex (Purdue) vs Pat D`Arcy (Princeton) - D'Arcy with a slim 1-0 lead going into the 3rd, although Limmex has 2 minutes of RT. Limmex escapes early. If he can fend off D'Arcy he'll win with the locked up RT point.

Mat 5: Matthew Kolodzik (Princeton) vs Ryan Deakin (Northwestern) - Close run match so far. 4-3 Kolo half way through. Kolo now with a 3 pt lead in the 3rd. RT not a factor. Kolodzik holds on and fells Deakin 7-5.
Mat 6: Jason Tsirtsis (Arizona State) vs Austin O`Connor (North Carolina) - Tsirtsis with an escape point in the second and a 1-0 lead. It's 1-1 after 3 periods so we're going to OT. Nothing in sudden victory but Tsirtsis gets in done in ride outs and wins 3-2.
Mat 7: Joshua Maruca (Arizona State) vs Justin Oliver (Central Michigan) - Quiet at first but Oliver umps out to a 4-1 lead. Maruca strikes back to make it 4-3. Oliver answers and it's 6-3 going into the 3rd, RT not a factor. Oliver locks in the victory 8-5.
Mat 8: Brandon Sorensen (Iowa) vs Eleazar Deluca (Rutgers) - Sorensen up 1-0 after 3 minutes. Now it's 5-1 in the 3rd period, Sorensen leading. Sorensen blows it open and wins by major 12-2.

Mat 5: Michael Kemerer (Iowa) vs Jake Danishek (Indiana) - Kemerer with a 4-2 lead and over a minute of riding time in the 1st. Kemdawg makes it 10-4 in the second, then secures a fall for Hawkeye bonus points.
Mat 6: Luke Zilverberg (South Dakota State) vs Mike D`Angelo (Princeton) - Zilverberg with the TD and rideout for a 2-0 lead after 3 minutes. It's now 4-0 Zilverberg, who also has a ton of RT. Zilverberg wins convincingly 5-0.
Mat 7: Andrew Crone (Wisconsin) vs Joshua Shields (Arizona State) - No scores after 3 minutes. Shields rides out Crone in the 2nd, though still no scores on the board. Shields gets a reversal in the third to put 2 on the board and locks up RT. Shields
Mat 8: Justin Staudenmayer (Brown) vs Joseph Velliquette (Penn) - Staudenmeyer with a 2-0 lead and almost 2 minutes of RT half way through the match. Staudenmeyer extends his lead and its 5-0 late in the 3rd. Staudenmeyer downs Ivy rival Velliquette 5-1.

Mat 5: Anthony Valencia (Arizona State) vs Jacob Morrissey (Purdue) - Valencia gets to doing Anthony Valencia things and has a 8-0 lead in the first. A lot of points on the board but it was never in doubt. Valencia wins 18-7.
Mat 6: Jon Schleifer (Princeton) vs May Bethea (Penn) - Schleifer holding on to a 4-3 lead over his Ivy league rival in the middle of the 2nd. Schleifer starting to pour it on, making it 10-3.
Mat 7: Jonathan Viruet (Brown) vs Alex Marinelli (Iowa) - No scores after one period. 3-2 Marinelli in the 3rd, RT not a favctor.
Mat 8: Richie Lewis (Rutgers) vs Logan Parks (Central Michigan) - Parks' escape is the only points after 2 periods, 1-0 is the score. It's 1-1 in the third and now we're in sudden victory. Lewis gets a go behind at the edge to win, 3-2 and is on to the semifinals.

Mat 5: Zahid Valencia (Arizona State) vs Josef Johnson (Harvard) - Zahid with 2 quid TDs makes it 4-1. It's 10-3 in the 2nd now. 13-5 with over 3 minutes of RT deep in the 3d. Zahid with a commanding 20-7 major victory.
Mat 6: David Kocer (South Dakota State) vs Johnny Sebastian (Northwestern) - Kocer sneaks out to a 3-2 lead after 3 minutes. Kocer leading 6-2 now with RT nearly locked up going into the 3rd. Kocer dominates, winning 11-3.
Mat 7: Dylan Lydy (Purdue) vs Mikey Labriola (Nebraska - UNAT) - 2-1 in favor of the true frosh LaBriola. The score is now 3-2 LaBriola with about a minute left in the match. RT not a factor. Lydy with the comeback! He wins 6-4 and moves on to the semis.
Mat 8: Christian Brucki (Central Michigan) vs Garrett Sutton (Michigan) - Brucki holding a 3-2 lead with a minute of RT half way through the 2nd. Brucki had a 5-4 lead before Sutton made it 6-5. Brucki has RT locked up though. Less than a minute left in the match. Sutton win the thriller and advances 8-6.

Mat 5: Nate Jackson (Princeton Wrestling Club) vs Nino Bonaccorsi (Pittsburgh) - Jackson with the first TD. He's leading 5-0 now in the second. Jackson winning 6-3 late in the third. Put it in the books for Jackson, 7-4.
Mat 6: Emery Parker (Illinois) vs Kayne MacCallum (Eastern Michigan) - Parker with a 6-3 lead after 2 periods. Parker handles MacCallum and wins by regular decision, 8-5.
Mat 7: Dylan Ammerman (Lehigh) vs Nick Gravina (Rutgers) - Gravina stakes himself a 2-1 leaf after 3 minutes. Gravina clinging to a 3-2 lead, although he does have RT locked up. Gravina avoids the last second takedown and moves into the semis with a 4-2 win.
Mat 8: Mitch Bowman (Iowa) vs Jordan Ellingwood (Central Michigan) - Ellingwood's escape is the only points on the board after 2 periods. It's 1-1 after 3 periods, RT not a factor, so we're headed to SV. Nothing in SV, on to rideout tiebreakers. Ellingwood breaks it open in TBs and wins 6-1.

Mat 5: Nate Rotert (South Dakota State) vs Christian Brunner (Purdue) - Half way through the match Rotert has a 5-2 lead. Brunner makes it closer, but it's Rotert who wins 6-4.
Mat 6: Cash Wilcke (Iowa) vs Pat Brucki (Princeton) - No scores after the 1st period. Wilcke with over a minute of RT in the 2nd, still no scores. It's 2-2 in the 3rd now, but Wilcke has 1:02 of RT. Wilcke gets the final TD, tacks on 1 for RT and advances to the semis with a 5-2 victory.
Mat 7: Jacob Warner (Iowa - UNAT) vs Jacob Smith (West Virginia) - No scores after 1. Warner escapes in the second to make it 1-0. Makes that 1-1 in the third. RT not a factor. They go to OT, and it's Warner who strikes first. A low level shot and the true frosh is in the semis.
Mat 8: Frank Mattiace (Penn) vs Kevin Mulligan (Rutgers) - Mattiace with an early TD in the 1st. Mattiace working from up top and secures a fall. He'll stay in the championship round tomorrow.

Mat 5: Tanner Hall (Arizona State) vs Shawn Streck (Purdue) - Hall up 1-0 in the third. Hall prevails 3-1.
Mat 6: Amar Dhesi (Oregon State) vs Conan Jennings (Northwestern) - Jennings staked himself a big 6-2 lead going into the third period. Jennings rolls into the semis 9-2.
Mat 7: Zack Parker (Ohio) vs Sam Stoll (Iowa) - Stoll with a quick TD makes it 2-0 in the 1st. Stoll gets on a roll and its 11-3 in the 3rd. Stolll wins going away, 17-5.
Mat 8: William Miller (Edinboro) vs Youssif Hemida (Maryland) - Hemida leads 2-0 half way through the match. Hemida clings to a two point lead and wins the match 3-1. The Terps have a semifinalist.
