Rivalry Continues: Clovis vs Buchanan
Another clash of two of the best squads in California is on deck as Buchanan and Clovis continue their long lasting rivalry.
Another clash of two of the best high school squads in California is on deck as sixth-ranked Buchanan and #20 Clovis continue their long-lasting rivalry on Thursday, Jan. 25, live on FloWrestling.
Buchanan is going for its third straight victory over Clovis after snapping the Cougars' 91-match winning streak against in-state opponents in 2016. Led by returning state 182lb champ and #7-ranked Anthony Montalvo, the host Bears are once again favored heading into this week's matchup. Meanwhile, the Cougars are led by three-time state champ and FloNationals winner Seth Nevills, who is ranked third at 285.
The biggest matchup of the night will come at 113, where Buchanan's Maximo Renteria and Clovis' Giano Petrucelli will have a rematch of their semifinal match at the Doc Buchanan Invitational earlier this month. In that matchup, Renteria had the lead with short time left when Petrucelli turned the tide and got the fall before claiming the title later that night.
But this dual meet isn't just a rivalry. When these teams meet for, what is referred to as "The Big One," it's an incredible spectacle with one of the best wrestling atmospheres around.
