Will #1 Kurt McHenry Wrestle 120 At National Preps?

Kurt McHenry has proven to be the best Cadet wrestler in the world, not once but twice. Earlier this year, he provided one of the most electrifying finishes in Who’s #1 history to earn the top spot at 113 pounds.

However, the St. Paul's (MD) junior is still missing one title among his long list of accomplishments: a National Prep championship.

As a freshman, he was defeated by Shane Hanson-Ashworth and last year McHenry was unable to compete. Now, as McHenry approaches his third shot at a title, it looks as though the top-ranked 113-pounder is considering a move to 120 for the Feb. 23-24 tournament in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Just this past week, McHenry wrestled at 120 during the MIAA A Conference Tournament in Baltimore and dominated the field en route to winning an individual title.

If he stays at 120 for the National Prep tournament, he could run into #3 Michael Colaiocco. But if McHenry remains at 113, he would get a rematch with #2 Trevor Mastrogiovanni, whom he defeated in the finals of the Beast of the East.

McHenry still has his state tournament coming up, and he could very well go back down to 113. However, there is a possibility of him wrestling 120, as well.
