Based off of the result of Perry and Reenan’s first-round matchup at the U.S. Open, it’s pretty easy to see why most felt that Perry would prevail in the finals. Reenan impressively proved them all wrong.

But to get the full scope of Reenan’s growth and ability to make adjustments, let’s take it back to his true freshman year at North Carolina State.
He finished his season at 21-13 and went 0-2 at the NCAA tournament with losses to Zach Epperly and Ryan Christensen. Last year, he had a pretty good redshirt year, with a 21-4 record before entering the Bill Farrell Invitational, where he was tech-falled 10-0 by Joe Rau.
And now that brings us back to the Open where he took his loss to Perry.
However, it was the last time he was on the losing side. Reenan came back to place third and collect wins over All-Americans Pat Downey, who he pinned in the first period, and TJ Dudley, who he teched 10-0 in 1:45 in the third-place bout.
But he was just getting started. After a quick first-round tech he avenged his loss to Rau by teching him in the first period to make the finals and get another shot at Perry. Then in two straight matches, he took out Perry to clinch his spot at Final X.
