Tristan Moran Is Transfering Out Of Oklahoma State
Tristan Moran will transfer out of Oklahoma State with Junior eligibility.
Oklahoma State's insane depth just got a little thinner, as Tristan Moran will transfer to a new school over the summer with junior eligibility.
The Stillwater, Oklahoma, native told FloWrestling that he has narrowed his list of schools to three: Wisconsin, Campbell, or Virginia Tech.
Moran amassed a 61-17 record participating mostly in tournaments for the Cowboys. He placed at the Reno Tournament of Champions all three seasons, improving from fourth to third to second in consecutive seasons.
Some of Moran's most impressive wins have come at the Southern Scuffle, where he has beaten two NCAA All-Americans, both coming by way of pinfall. In the 2017 edition of the prestigious tourney, Moran knocked off Minnesota's Tommy Thorn, an eighth-place finisher at the 2017 NCAAs. At the 2018 Scuffle, Moran decked last season's runner-up, Ronnie Perry of Lock Haven
Watch Moran pin Thorn at the 2017 Scuffle:
Moran wrestled all of his first two seasons at 141, while last season he spent most of the time at 149 pounds. At the end of last season, Moran bumped up to 157 for one dual meet and then entered the Big 12 Championships for the Cowboys at that weight, where he went 1-2.
Moran is the fourth Cowboy to transfer out of Stillwater this season but the possible permutations of Oklahoma State's 2019 lineup could fill a novel. The Cowboys return 2018 All-American Boo Lewallen at 149 and have blue-chip recruit Kaden Gfeller, who could go either 141 or 149, coming off redshirt. Despite the departure of Moran and Geo Martinez's questionable return from injury, head coach John Smith still has recent Edinboro transfer Andrew Shomers and senior Jonce Blaylock to choose from, among many others. How it all ultimately shakes out will likely not be known until the Big 12 Championships.
