Notable results weight-by-weight from the 2018 Journeymen MyHouse Northeast Duals.
So the Journeymen MyHouse Collegiate Duals are in the books, and 2018 was another strong year. There was plenty to wrap our heads around, so let's go weight-by-weight to hit some of the most notable results.
Watch 2018 Journeymen MyHouse Collegiate Classic
Sunday Nov. 11 | 9:00 AM Eastern
Remember, today was just the dual portion. Tomorrow will be the individual event, featuring a round robin format with several pools at each weight. The Collegiate Classic starts at 9am eastern, and you won't want to miss that either.
125 Pounds
The story of the day was Zeke Moisey, who only wrestled once for Nebraska and was clearly injured. In that one match, he barely scraped by Drexel true freshman Antonio Mininno 8-7. It's only November, but it's never good to start off a season hurt. In other news, #7 Louie Hayes looked great after missing last week's dual with Indiana.
133 Pounds
The limited sample size we have on Brian Courtney down at 133 for UVA has been solid. Today he picked up two wins, one of which was a major, and had a 7-5 match with #8 Montorie Bridges. Courtney was 40th overall on the 2017 Big Board and one to keep an eye on who could work his way into the rankings.
141 Pounds
Not a great day for Chad Red. The sophomore All-American from Nebraska lost to both Matt Findlay and Sam Krivus, and his only win was 2-1 over Nicholas Widmann of Drexel in which he did not score a takedown. Krivus had an excellent day, picking up a major, a tech, and a 5-3 win over Sam Turner to make a case that he should be back in the rankings. Lastly, #14 Nate Limmex of Purdue rebounded after losing to true freshman Real Woods last weekend.
149 Pounds
Nothing major to report other than that #2 Anthony Ashnault went 2-0 for Rutgers.
Watch: Ashnault over Jonathan Milner
157 Pounds
For #9 John Van Brill, the question becomes how far he will tumble in next week's rankings after going 0-2 on the day. He fell 5-1 to Angel Najar of App State and then lost 9-6 to Grant LaMont of Utah Valley. Meanwhile, #5 Tyler Berger went 3-0 for Nebraska, outscoring his opponents by a combined 38-6.
165 Pounds
This weight may have had the most notable results of the Duals. Just like Chad Red, his Nebraska teammate Isaiah White had an off day. Entering the day ranked ninth, he didn't wrestle against #15 Demetrius Romero of Utah Valley, lost 6-3 to unraked Ebed Jarrell of Drexel, and beat #20 Cam Coy of Virginia 7-3.
Romero had a nice 8-3 win over Rutgers freshman Stephan Glasgow. Wyoming's 10th-ranked Branson Ashworth got a tech over Edinboro and a 7-1 win over Coy. He may drop out of the rankings, but Coy wasn't favored to beat either White or Ashworth.
174 Pounds
Before the event, our own Oliver Astone wanted to know, just how good is Mike Labriola? Well today at least, Mikey Labs looked damn good. He had two techs (one in the first period!) and beat a very tough Kimball Bastian 15-8. The Utah Valley junior did beat Joe Grello 6-2. Wyoming redshirt freshman Hayden Hastings picked up two wins over fellow youngsters Robert Patrick and Jacob Oliver.
184 Pounds
Nebraska All-American Taylor Venz started his sophomore campaign strong, as the #3 wrestler went 3-0 on the day. Also at this weight, Will Sumner beat Jordan Pagano to help UVU topple Rutgers. Pagano may wind up as the Scarlet Knights' 184 all season.
197 Pounds
Quite a few things to remark about at 197. In what seemed like an overall subpar day for Nebraska, #15 Eric Schultz fell to Stephen Loiseau of Drexel 10-6 and Jay Aiello of Virginia 7-5. However, Schultz did beat Tanner Orndorff 6-5. In turn, Orndorff beat Matt Correnti 9-2. Randall Diabe also beat Correnti 6-5, but Diabe was pinned in the first period by Elijah Rodriguez of Ithaca. Rodriguez is a true freshman from Long Beach, NY who also got a first period pin over Alexander Green of Castelton. Sounds like a strong bet to be a D3 All-American this year!
285 Pounds
The only notable result was Nebraska's Patrick Grayson beating #18 Joey Goodhart 5-2.
