Could we see Anthony Cassar in a Penn State singlet for another year? It’s looking like the Nittany Lions will be looking to make that happen.
In an interview with True Wrestling after his championship performance at the Keystone Classic the PSU heavyweight insinuated that there was a possibility they’d be seeking a 6th year of eligibility. Cassar followed up with more details about the situation at the team’s media session on Tuesday.
"It's something we've been working on for the last year or so,” Cassar said according to The Daily Collegian, the Penn State student-run publication. “When I took the year off in 2016, the option was kind of started there. It's definitely a possibility, and we'll get the season going and make a final decision in March."
Cassar has been taking full advantage of his new opportunity at heavyweight as he currently holds an undefeated record, which includes defeating teammate Nick Nevills who held down the spot at heavyweight last season. Cassar seems to have set himself up to be the guy for the Nittany Lions at 285 all season with the win over Nevills, and according to coach Sanderson he will at least be getting the nod in both bouts this weekend.
"It's always a game day decision before we go out there, but I would say it's looking like Anthony will have both matches, said Sanderson." (credit: The Daily Collegian)
