Currently ranked #6 at 145 pounds, Saunders projects as a 141/149 in college. He's 110-10 with three Missouri state titles in his high school career for Christian Brothers College outside of St. Louis.
It's a great pickup for Cornell, as Saunders is seventh on the 2020 Big Board. The Big Red already received a commitment from Greg Diakomihalis, the #11 ranked junior.
"It was the difficult and stressful decision of my life thus far," said Saunders. "We loved Illinois, Penn State and Princeton but at the end of the day, Cornell just felt like family."
Saunders started off his season by wrestling Jordan Decatur at Who's #1 in October and then a couple months later won a Walsh Ironman title. His only two losses this season were to Keegan O'Toole and Trevor Chumbley.
Saunders will benefit from training at the NYRTC in Ithaca. He won Akron to make last year's Cadet world team and also wrestled at Junior worlds after Austin Gomez had to pull out with an injury.
