Bo Nickal has won the 2019 Hodge Trophy. The Penn State senior is the fourth Nittany Lion to win the award and it is the sixth overall Hodge that went to a PSU wrestler.

A native of Allen, Texas, Nickal finished with 37 out of the 51 first-place votes from the Hodge Trophy Voting Committee. His teammate Jason Nolf received 10 first place votes and four members of the voting committee cast ballots for the Hodge Trophy to be awarded to both Nickal and Nolf this year.

Nickal went 30-0 this season with 18 pins, three techs, and six major decisions. He ended his career 120-3 and on a 68 match winning streak. Of those 120 wins, 94 were bonus point victories, good for fifth all-time at Penn State, and he had 59 career falls, second in PSU history behind Nolf. In his four NCAA tournaments, he made the finals each year, winning three times and scoring 95.5 team points, good for eighth all-time.

Nolf went 31-0 this season with 15 falls, five techs, and six majors. He went 117-3 with 103 bonus point wins, right behind Ed Ruth for second at Penn State in career bonus wins. He finished as the Nittany Lion's career pins leader with 60. Like Nickal, he made four finals, won three titles and scored 98 points at NCAAs, seventh most ever.

The other finalists were Anthony Ashnault of Rutgers, who graduated and was one of Rutgers' first two national champs in school history (along with Nick Suriano), and Cornell sophomore Yianni Diakomihalis.
