#1 Lucas Byrd Set For Visit To PSU

Since announcing that he was granted his release from Maryland via Twitter, top-ranked 120-pounder Lucas Byrd has started exploring some new options for where he will spend his college career.

At the moment, that list of possible destinations isn’t a long one. The Super 32 champ recently took a trip to Illinois, where he admits he had a great experience. Now the top-25 recruit will visit the NCAA champion Nittany Lions in State College this coming weekend.

With just one visit under his belt it’s tough to tell which way Byrd is leaning at the moment, but it looks like he wants to stay in the Big Ten.

Naturally, he fits into anyone's lineup at 125. For PSU that spot has been a bit tough to keep filled with a contender. Since Nick Suriano departed there have been a few names of recruits we thought we could see in the lineup for them at that spot. Gavin Teasdale was a guy we waited to emerge as the guy for the job, but ultimately that never came to fruition, and Devin Schnupp continued to hold it down. Currently, redshirt freshman Brody Teske is the only other 125-pounder PSU has on the roster. Certainly the addition of Byrd could help shore up that spot a bit more.
