One of my favorite (and certainly the most important high school) tournament of the year is here. It seems the field gets deeper and deeper each year as the quest to earn medals at the World level becomes more pronounced and publicized.
My compadre, Daniel Roy Lobdell, known to his birth parents as "Nomad" has already written a comprehensive preview. Ryan took a look at some of the most anticipated individual matchups. And because the list of entries is so long and robust, I'll take a dive into some 'sleepers'. I'll differentiate 'sleepers' from darkhorses in that these guys are talented but a little green. While I think there's a small likelihood of the wrestlers listed making a run to the finals, I do think that they'll compete well, and perhaps more confidently, think they are names you need to know for the future. They be household names in due time.

45KG - Mac Church, PA
The winner of the last two PJW (PA Junior High titles) at 92lbs and 102lbs, respectively, Church could be the next great one out of the WPIAL. He made the finals of the NE Regional this year where he lost by tech to FloNats' Champ Marc-Anthony McGowan. Church is #66 on the Junior High Big Board.
45KG - Kannon Webster, IL
#25 on the JR High Big Board, Webster won the Illinois state freestyle title in Novice/Schoolboys the last four years.
51KG - Evan Holloway, VA
Part of a studly group from New Kent, Holloway has had a good spring, most recently winning NE Regionals after going undefeated at Lehigh Valley Freestyle Duals. He's currently #61 on the Freshmen Big Board.
51KG - Meyer Shapiro, MD
Shapiro vaulted to #7 on the Junior High Big Board after a great season that saw him win a loaded S32 Middle School and going 8-1 at VAC Duals where his only loss was to Maxximus Martinez, last year's Akron Runner-Up. He took 3rd in the NE Regionals bracket won by Holloway.
55KG - Dy'Vaire Van Dyke, OH
Van Dyke is one of the top incoming freshmen. He went 8-0 at McDonogh Duals and most recently teched his way through Central Regional FS.
65KG - Dean Hamiti, IL
Hamiti has had solid folk success - (two-time placer at Folk Nats and a Cheesehead runner-up - to go along with his 2-for-2 performance at the state tournament. While he didn't wrestle freestyle last summer, he just teched his way through one of the toughest state tournaments in that style in the country.
71KG - Clayton Whiting, WI
#15 on our Freshmen Big Board, Whiting is really coming on. He won a state title, Folk Nationals and Northern Plains. The kid's on a roll.
71KG - Brant Whitaker, MO
Whitaker went just 1-2 at Fargo last year but the Sophomore is a two-time state finalist that won the title this year and owns a win over Whiting from last fall.
92KG - Emmanual Skillings, OK
Skillings has reportedly not wrestled for very long, but judging from his early results - he won Oklahoma's big class state title, while prompting other OK studs to change weights this year - he has a whole lotta promise.
92KG - Todd DeGroat, NY
De Groat had a solid 5th place showing as a soph in New York state's big class. But what caught my attention was a couple weeks later at NHSCA's where he pinned his way through the entire tournament including three pins under :31.
