Zain Retherford Out Of Pan Am Games, To Be Replaced By Jaydin Eierman
Zain Retherford has been replaced by Jaydin Eierman at 65kg for this weekend's Pan Am Games following Zain's injury at the Yasar Dogu.
A major change has been made to the lineup for this weekend's Pam Am Games.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Wrestling has announced a lineup change to its men’s freestyle squad for the 2019 Pan American Games, which are set for Aug. 7-10 in Lima, Peru.
Two-time Senior World Team member Zain Retherford has pulled out of the event, and 2019 U23 World Team member Jaydin Eierman will replace him at 65 kg.
Following the 2019 Pan Am Games selection procedures for wrestling, Eierman has stepped up to accept his participation in the Games.
Within the last couple of years, Eierman has become more and more involved on the Senior level in men’s freestyle, earning a second-place finish at the 2018 U.S. Open and taking fifth at the 2019 Open.
He was also third on the 2018 Senior National Team ladder, and this year, he was fourth at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament.
The Pan Am Games will mark Eierman’s first major international event, and second time overseas after last season's Ziolkowski in Poland.
Most recently, Eierman rolled through the competition at the 2019 U23 World Team Trials to earn the chance to represent the USA at U23 World Championships on Oct. 28-Nov. 2 in Budapest, Hungary. It will be his first World Championships.
A three-time NCAA All-American for Mizzou, Eierman has announced plans to take an Olympic redshirt for the 2019-20 season to focus solely on freestyle.
The Pan Am Games differ from the Pan Am Championships as the Games feature the 18 Olympic weights across all three styles and are contested only once every four years. The Pan Am Games do NOT serve as a qualifier for the 2020 Olympics.
