Not only is saying, "Hey man, nice shot," a great way to tell your friend they made a good attack from neutral, but it's also a way to say the name of a great rock song from the '90s. Yes, nothing more fun than revealing one's age and musical tastes on a blog post previewing the upcoming weekend of college wrestling.
Live this week on FloWrestling
Week one was excellent, but that was just a taste of things to come. Two top-five teams wrestle for the first time this season live on FloWrestling: #1 Penn State and #4 Arizona State. That's pretty good.
But what else? How about we run down this weekend's events and discuss all the fun wrestling we're about to watch like pals? Sounds good, let's do it.

Friday, November 8:
#18 North Carolina at #24 Michigan, 7:00 PM (Coverage page link)
Projected lineups:
125: #23 Joey Melendez or Jeremiah Derby, UNC vs Jack Medley, UM
133: Jaime Hernandez, UNC vs Austin Assad, UM
141: #23 Zach Sherman, UNC vs Ben Freeman, UM
149: Gino Esposito, UNC vs Ben Lamantia or Nick Freeman, UM
157: AC Headlee, UNC vs #8 Will Lewan, UM
165: #16 Kennedy Monday, UNC vs Reece Hughes or Layne Van Anrooy
174: Clay Lautt, UNC vs Max Maylor, UM
184: Chasen Blair, UNC vs #14 Jelani Embree, UM
197: Brandon Whitman, UNC vs Jackson Striggow, UM
285: #23 Andrew Gunning, UNC vs #5 Mason Parris, UM
Our man David The Brayman has four reasons to watch this excellent dual. Plus I added a bonus one. We work together as a team that way. One team one dream. One dream of a taco supreme. Sorry, I'm writing this late Thursday night and I am hungry. Hungry for tacos!
Anywho, these two Jumpman sponsored public ivies are natural rivals, and I would like to see this dual pairing continue in the future.
*Edinboro vs #5 Wisconsin at Saegertown, PA, 7:00 PM (Coverage page link)
Projected lineups:
125: Michael Cullen (Wisconsin) vs Lucas Rodriguez (Edinboro)
133: #1 Seth Gross (Wisconsin) vs Tye Varndell (Edinboro)
141: #11 Tristan Moran (Wisconsin) vs Nate Hagan (Edinboro)
149: #13 Cole Martin (Wisconsin) vs Tyler Vath (Edinboro)
157: Garrett Model (Wisconsin) vs Peter Pappas (Edinboro)
165: #3 Evan Wick (Wisconsin) vs Derek Ciavarro (Edinboro)
174: Jared Krattiger (Wisconsin) vs #23 Jacob Oliver (Edinboro)
184: Johnny Sebastian (Wisconsin) vs Cody Mulligan (Edinboro)
197: Taylor Watkins (Wisconsin) vs #25 Dylan Reynolds (Edinboro)
285: #7 Trent Hillger (Wisconsin) vs Jon Spaulding (Edinboro)
Wisconsin has logged quite a few miles in the first eight days of the season. They were in San Diego for a couple of Friday morning duals, then wrestled Thursday in Buffalo, and now, on Friday, they work their way back to the cheesehead state with a dual meet in Saegertown.
Edinboro has gone through a transition recently. Head coach Matt Hill took over for 2014 Coach of the year Tim Flynn, and had to rebuild a roster that was depleted by transfers. The Scots have a lot ground to cover before they get back to their lofty peak of 2015 when they placed third at the NCAA Championships, but they have assembled a deep squad of tough-outs.
The Badgers will be favorites, but Edinboro is going to make them work for it, especially given the potential for travel fatigue that may factor into Wisconsin's performance.
Saturday, November 9:

American, Maryland, VMI at AU Round Robin, hosted by American, 10:00 AM
I m a big fan of round robins, so it does me great joy to see more of them being conducted. Especially those held in the District I once called home.
Random Break For A Cool Video
Bader went to Raleigh and filmed the Wolfpack going live.
Minnesota, North Dakota State, South Dakota State at Bison Open, hosted by North Dakota State, 10:00 AM (9:00 AM)
Brookings, Fargo, and Minneapolis form what is known as the Great Grain Triangle. No idea if that's actually true but it should be, IMO.
Journeymen Northeast Duals (Coverage page link)
Buffalo vs #23 Purdue at Troy, NY, 10:00 AM
Long Island vs #20 Virginia at Troy, NY, 10:00 AM
Sacred Heart vs Utah Valley at Troy, NY, 10:00 AM
#4 Arizona State vs #20 Virginia at Troy, NY, 12:00 PM
Long Island vs Sacred Heart at Troy, NY, 12:00 PM
#23 Purdue vs Utah Valley at Troy, NY, 12:00 PM
#4 Arizona State vs #23 Purdue at Troy, NY, 2:00 PM
Buffalo vs Long Island at Troy, NY, 2:00 PM
The first leg of the two-day Journeymen jamboree is the Northeast Duals, held at Hudson Valley Community College, right across the river from Albany. The Sun Devils' two matches against Virginia and Purdue are the highlights, and not coincidentally, the only two matches between top-25 teams.
Anytime Arizona State wrestlers this season is worth tuning in to, as it's Zahid Valencia's last season. Should Zahid be #1 or on the pound-for-pound rankings? That is a debate that currently raging on the FloWrestling Slack channel as I type!
Purdue vs Utah Valley should also be fun. Both teams are loaded with quality competitors.
Southern Illinois Edwardsville vs. West Liberty at Lansdale, PA, 11:00 AM
Drexel vs. Southern Illinois Edwardsville at Lansdale, PA, 12:30 PM
Drexel vs. West Liberty at Lansdale, PA, 2:00 PM
What do you think the Jenkins family, the original homesteaders of Lansdale, PA, would say if you told them there would one day be a tri-meet between NCAA wrestling programs, right here on this very property?
They would probably be very confused. Honestly, they would be terrified. There is no way to convince people that time travel is feasible without looking like a deranged crazy person or possibly a supernatural demon, despite what the propagandists behind the Back to the Future movies would have you believe.
Campbell at Pittsburgh, 2:00 PM
Who would win in a fight in nature, a camel or a panther? You'd think panther, right? Yes, me too. Too bad we'll never know, as one lives in the desert and the other in the jungle, and never the twain shall meet.
Life Pacific at California Baptist, 3:00 PM (12:00 PM)
Life Pacific is a university, not an insurance company, located in San Dimas, California, the same town from whence Bill and Ted hail, the duo famous for both their Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey.
Sunday, November 10:
Binghamton, Franklin & Marshall, Harvard at Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open, hosted by
Binghamton, 9:00 AM
A great opportunity to watch Lou DePrez in action, the Bearcats' 10th-ranked 184-pounder.
Cleveland State at Ohio Intercollegiate Open, Cleveland, OH, 9:00 AM
Rough scene out there in Cleveland, what with the Browns and Baker Mayfield and all. At least that's what I'm gathering from my Twitter feed. I don't have time to follow the NFL anymore. Any precious space left in my meager brain is reserved for wrestling information. Sorry, football, there just isn't any room for you right now!
Journeymen Collegiate Classic (Coverage page link)
#4 Arizona State, Bloomsburg, Brown, Davidson, George Mason, Hofstra, Indiana, #12 Lehigh, Lock Haven, Long Island, #8 Nebraska, #20 Oklahoma, #19 Old Dominion, The Citadel, Utah Valley in Troy, NY, 9:00 AM
There are going to be over 30 top-25 wrestlers at the Collegiate Classic, a round-robin (yes!) event with starters and backups from all the teams listed above. Don't believe me? Check out this article and believe it!
That's right, I'm not cutting and pasting that article here — you have to click on the other article. Those clicks pay the bills, my friend!
Army West Point vs. Illinois at Chattanooga, 10:00 AM
Army West Point at Chattanooga, 12:00 PM
Illinois at Chattanooga, 2:00 PM
Support the troops (and the Illini and Mocs) and enjoy this tri-meet in Chattanooga.
Iowa State, Northern Iowa at Harold Nichols Cyclone Open, hosted by Iowa State, 10:00 AM (9:00 AM)
Cyclone alum and FloSports Director of Operations Cyon Williams recently recorded an episode of my stupid podcast that I'll think you'll enjoy. Lot's of great Cyclone stories. And some cursing. Cyon curses a lot. Coming soon!
Northern Colorado at Northern Colorado Open, hosted by Northern Colorado, 11:00 AM (9:00 AM)
The Bears of Northern Colorado had five champs at the Cowboy Open last weekend. That's a lot! I suspect that'll have more than that when they host their own tournament in Greely.
Northwestern at Virginia Tech, 1:00 PM
A very good early season out-of-conference dual between the Wildcats and Hokies. We could see ranked matchups at 133, 149, and 157. Tech is coming off a dominating win over Missouri last weekend. Can they keep the momentum going? You can watch on ESPN3.
Navy at #1 Penn State, 2:00 PM (Coverage page link)
Projected lineups:
125: Logan Treaster (Navy) vs Brody Teske/Devin Schnupp (Penn State)
133: #17 Casey Cobb (Navy) vs #3 Roman Bravo-Young (Penn State)
141: Cody Trybus (Navy) vs #3 Nick Lee (Penn State)
149: Morgan Fuenffinger (Navy) vs Jarod Verkleeren (Penn State)
157: Scout Skidgel (Navy) vs #5 Brady Berge (Penn State)
165: #14 Tanner Skidgel (Navy) vs #1 Vincenzo Joseph (Penn State)
174: #18 Spencer Carey (Navy) vs #1 Mark Hall (Penn State)
184: Andrew Buckley (Navy) vs #7 Shakur Rasheed (Penn State)
197: Jacob Koser (Navy) vs #3 Kyle Conel (Penn State)
285: John Birchmeier (Navy) vs #1 Anthony Cassar (Penn State)
The first time Penn State competes this season. And as if you really needed them, Nomad has six reasons to watch. I won't waste any more time trying to convince you to watch. It's like, DUH.
*Campbell at Ohio, 4:00 PM
Who would win in a fight in nature, a Camel or a Bobcat? You would think, wait, I already used this bit earlier in this article. Sorry, long week. Anyway, human wrestlers who compete for teams nicknamed the Camels and Bobcats wrestle this Sunday afternoon.
Stanford at #3 Ohio State, 7:00 PM (Coverage page link)
Projected lineups:
125: #14 Gabe Townsell (Stanford) vs #21 Malik Heinselman (Ohio State)
133: Brandon Kier (Stanford) vs #20 Quinn Kinner (Ohio State)
141: #15 Real Woods (Stanford) vs #1 Luke Pletcher (Ohio State)
149: #19 Requir van der Merwe (Stanford) vs #5 Sammy Sasso (Ohio State)
157: Tyler Eischens (Stanford) vs Elijah Cleary/Jaden Mattox (Ohio State)
165: #8 Shane Griffith (Stanford) vs #20 Ethan Smith (Ohio State)
174: Foster Karmon (Stanford) vs #21 Kaleb Romero (Ohio State)
184: Judah Duhm (Stanford) vs Gavin Hoffman (Ohio State)
197: #12 Nathan Traxler (Ohio State) vs #1 Kollin Moore (Ohio State)
285: David Showunmi (Stanford) vs #9 Chase Singletary (Ohio State)
After an eventful wrestle-off, Ohio State competed in the Michigan Open last weekend and notched five champs. That's a lot! This Sunday Tom Ryan and the Buckeyes officially christen the Covelli Center and compete in a dual meet for the first time in history.
Our very own Wrestling Nomad provides nine reasons why you should watch. That's honestly way more than you should require, but hey, if that ninth reason gets us one more viewer, then by golly it was worth it.
Your Non-Wrestling Entertainment Pick of the Week
Dolemite is my Name, on Netflix, a terrific biopic about Rudy Ray Moore. Eddie Murphy is the star's name, and a crafting masterful leading performance is his game.
Now is the part where I usually go back through the article and add tweets and videos and things of that nature, but it's 10 PM Thursday night and I haven't packed yet for my morning flight to Albany. So my whimsical prose will have to suffice. Enjoy the wrestling my friends!
