There will be tough wrestlers from all levels of college wrestling on Lindenwood's campus tomorrow, and we combed through the entry list of the gold division to find some of the most notable at each weight class.
Included are three Super 32 finalists from last October, several ranked wrestlers, and a few teams looking for a guy to take control of a starting spot.
125 Pounds
Chris Cannon, Northwestern
Dack Punke, Missouri
Cevion Severado, Missouri
Noah Surtin, Missouri
Cameron Valdiviez, Missouri
Cannon is currently redshirting for the Wildcats. The centerpiece of coach Matt Storniolo's 2019 recruiting class, Cannon was a two-time National Prep champ for Blair Academy. Missouri has four 125s on their roster, and they're all entered here. This seems to be yet another opportunity for one of them to separate themself in the race for the starting spot at the end of the year for the conference tournament.
133 Pounds
Ramazan Attasauov, Iowa State
Lucas Byrd, Illinois
Allan Hart, Missouri
Colin Valdiviez, Northwestern
Attasauov will likely take over a starting spot for the Cyclones within the next few years. Byrd is a blue-chipper who most anticipated would be a 125 but is up a weight while redshirting for the Illini. Hart was ranked earlier in the year after he made the Southeast Open finals. Valdiviez was an NCAA qualifier in 2018.
141 Pounds
Brevin Balmeceda, Oklahoma State
Joey Bianchi, Little Rock
Balmeceda wrestled in Who's #1 last year at 152 and is a long-term middleweight option for the Cowboys. Soon all of the Bianchis will be Trojans, a family who is an extremely important piece of coach Neil Erisman's first few years as head coach of Arkansas Little Rock.
149 Pounds
Trevor Chumbley, Northwestern
Jeren Glosser, Iowa
Vince Turk, Iowa
Tyshawn Williams, SIUE
Another of Northwestern's redshirting freshmen in Trevor Chumbley will be wrestling. Iowa's two high-profile senior backups in Jeren Glosser and Vince Turk will get some mat time. Williams was a 2018 national qualifier and one of the best on coach Jeremy Spates' current Southern Illinois Edwardsville team.
157 Pounds
#14 Jarrett Jacques, Missouri
#22 Justin Ruffin, SIUE
Phyllip DeLoach, Missouri
Sophomore Jacques is the heavy favorite here. His backup DeLoach has a win over #21 AC Headlee from earlier this season. Hopefully we see Ruffin against Jacques in the final.
165 Pounds
Peyton Mocco, Missouri
Nick South, Indiana
Mocco is going to be one of the most entertaining wrestlers you'll see on Saturday. South was a Super 32 finalist currently redshirting for the Hoosiers.
174 Pounds
#21 Connor Flynn, Missouri
DJ Shannon, Illinois
Flynn is one of a couple ranked starters competing this weekend for the Tigers. Shannon had a great start to his redshirt year by making the finals of the Michigan State Open.
184 Pounds
Abe Assad, Iowa
Canten Marriott, Missouri
Like Balmeceda, Assad also wrestled in WNO last year. The Fargo champ was #29 on the 2019 Big Board and will likely take over as the Hawkeyes' starter next year once Cash Wilcke graduates. Marriott has earned starting time at Missouri.
197 Pounds
Christian Brunner, Purdue
Wyatt Koelling, Missouri
Brunner is likely redshirting for the Boilermakers but was #11 before he was pulled out of the rankings. Koelling is the Tigers' starter at this weight.
285 Pounds
Zach Elam, Missouri
Josh Heindselman, Oklahoma
Colton McKiernan, SIUE
Austin Myers, Missouri
Brandon Reed, Lindsey Wilson
Elam was #8 in the preseason before we discovered he was redshirting. The Junior world silver is a massive favorite to win heavyweight but there are some interesting names below him. Heindselman is the Sooners' future starter at 285. McKiernan was a qualifier last year as a true freshman. Myers is always intriguing after missing a great deal of time. Reed is an upset special waiting to happen and one of several non-D1 guys likely to notch a big win or two tomorrow.
