Senior Nationals isn’t the only thing going on this weekend. If you still want to get your folkstyle/college fix in, you’re in luck! Four D1 duals are going down live on Flo Friday starting at 11 AM CST with George Mason vs Edinboro.
Here are the duals and the top projected matchups in each dual.
George Mason vs Edinboro
Start time: 11 AM
174: Anthony Lombardo vs #23 Jacob Oliver
While Anthony Lombardo is his first season at George Mason, he’s in his sixth season of college wrestling. Jacob Oliver is coming off a national qualifying season and is off to a 10-3 start. Check out his crazy pin over Andrew McNally earlier this year (also, classic Zeb on the call).
#6 Nebraska vs Oregon State
Start time: 6 PM This dual is only available to viewers in Canada and Mexico.
149: #12 Collin Purinton vs Daxton Gordon
Collin Purinton got put on the radar for a lot of people this year with his exciting OT win over All-American Max Thomsen. While he came back down to Earth a little after taking three losses at CKLV, those losses were all to the 9th-, 10th-, and 11th-ranked wrestlers at the weight.
Daxton Gordon is no slouch, either. Before transferring to Oregon State, Gordon was a Div. II National champion at Cal Baptist. Now, in his first year at Oregon State, he’s 3-1 with two pins, a major decision, and one overtime loss. One of those pins came Reno this weekend off of an awesome high flyer.
It will be interesting to see if Gordon will be able to hang with a top-15 opponent.
#17 Pittsburgh vs Maryland
Start time: 6 pm
165: #10 Jake Wetzel vs Kyle Cochran
Jake Wetzel is in his fourth season at Pitt and is 8-0 so far on the year with wins over #13 Ethan Smith, #17 Ebed Jarrell, and #19 Quentin Perez. After sitting out last season with an injury, Cochran is back on the mat for the Terrapins. Of Cochran’s five wins, four have come by bonus point. This one could be fun.
#13 Minnesota vs South Dakota State
Start time: 8 pm
149: #5 Brayton Lee vs #15 Henry Pohlmeyer
This is going to be the premier match of the dual, and the premiere college match of the weekend. Brayton Lee is having a monster redshirt freshman year with his only loss coming to Boo Lewallen. At CKLV Lee took out Brock Zacherl, Max Thomsen, and Sammy Sasso. Not a bad tournament. However, Pohlmeyer is a fifth-year senior and can’t be overlooked. Pohlmeyer is a two-time NCAA qualifier, has beaten Max Thomsen twice, and even was up 5-2 on Boo Lewallen before got injured last season. Give it to me.
