After finishing his freshman year with an 18-15 record and 1-2 showing at the NCAAs, West Virginia’s Noah Adams came into the preseason ranked #19. The WV native has now surpassed all expectations put on him by people outside of Morgantown. Adams is 25-0 and the #2 ranked 197-pounder in the country.
Adam’s first few solid tests of the season came in mid-November in duals against Northern Colorado and Army. Adam’s sent two ranked opponents in Jacob Seely and JT Brown home with major decision losses.
Adams then got put on a lot of people’s radar when he won the Southern Scuffle in January. On his way to the 197 lbs title, he majored Seely once again, beat a top-10 opponent in Ethan Laird, and then pinned #6 at the time, Nathan Traxler, in the finals.
Adams has continued to impress since the Scuffle, beating #15 Jake Woodley 6-1 and pinning #11 Dakota Geer.
Now, heading into the final stretch of the regular season, Adams has cemented himself as the top 197-pounder in the Big 12 and one of the top contenders at 197 lbs in the country. This weekend he’ll be putting his undefeated record on the line against two Big 12 opponents in Noah Ganser of Northern Iowa and Joel Shapiro of Iowa State.
