I’ve already gone through all the D1 commits that will be at the PIAA state tournament, but now here are the best wrestlers that still have yet to commit to a college. While there are many talented freshmen and sophomores who will eventually end up wrestling in college, this list only includes juniors and seniors who are eligible to commit.
2020 PIAA Individual State Wrestling Championship
Nate Schon, 220 (Selinsgrove)
Nate Schon won his first state title last year as a sophomore, beating Andrew Balukas 14-1 in the finals.
Schon was undefeated this season until he lost in the Regional finals to Bucknell commit Dorian Crosby in sudden victory. With these two on opposite sides of the AAA 220 bracket, we could very well see the rematch in the finals.
Brett Ungar, 113 (Notre Dame GP)
After winning a New Jersey state title last year, Ungar transferred to Notre Dame and is now one of the best wrestlers in the state. In addition to being one of the best wrestlers in the state, Ungar has one of the best rivalries with #5 in the country at 113 and Pitt commit Gary Steen. After Steen won in the Ironman finals, Ungar got his revenge in an exciting overtime match at Team States.
Isaiah Vance, 285 (Hempfield)
Isaiah Vance is an animal. He’s 38-1 this season with 9 forfeits, 25 pins, and the lone loss is to #10 in the country Cole Deery of Malvern Prep in the Powerade finals.
Kyle Hauserman, 120 (Council Rock North)
Kyle Hauserman took third place last year and I expect him to end up high on the podium again this year. If he wins his pigtail, he’ll have a tough match against Andrew Smith of Nazareth, but Hauserman has proved himself to be more than capable in big matches. He beat Joey Fischer in the Powerade semifinals before winning in the finals as well.
Joey Milano, 182 (Spring Ford)
After taking fourth at 182 last year, Joey Milano is back and expected to repeat that success. He’s 43-1 with a loss to Maximus Hale. Milano’s high point so far this season was taking out Sam Fisher in the Escape the Rock finals.
