#34 Junior Erik Gibson Commits To Cornell
Two-time Pennsylvania state placer Erik Gibson out of Forest Hills has verbally committed to wrestle for the Cornell Big Red in college.
Just four days into the recruiting period for the Class of 2022 and Cornell has already picked up a massive verbal from a rising junior as Erik Gibson just gave his verbal to the Big Red.
Gibson is a two-time Pennsylvania state placer for Forest Hills, finishing third as a freshman 138 and sixth this past season at 145 after suffering an injury in the semifinals. The school looks to grow into a AA power in the next few years out of District Six near Pittsburgh. All five of their state placers return next year, along with a pipeline that features top-10 middle schoolers Mason Gibson and Bo Bassett.
Gibson, who is projecting as about a 165-174 after putting on some muscle this offseason, is our #34 prospect on the Junior Big Board. With all those studs coming back to Forest Hills, three other of whom are in Class of 2022 plus younger brother Mason, the Big Red staff may have helped establish a crucial pipeline to Ithaca.
National high school rankings are still being worked on for this coming year, but Gibson is slated to be ranked, likely at 152 or 160. His overall record in high school right now is 83-10, and he's also placed third and second at Powerade. Gibson was seventh last summer in Fargo.
Looking a few years down the road, Cornell's lineup could feature Big Boarders from 2020-2022 like Brett Ungar, Greg Diakomihalis, Josh Saunders, Ryan Sokol, Cole Handlovic, Gage McClenahan, and Gibson.
