Real Woods Enters The Transfer Portal
Real Woods enters the transfer portal 48 hours after Stanford announces they will discontinue wrestling in 2021.
Just over 48 hours after Stanford announced they would discontinue wrestling after the 2020-21 season, Real Woods has become the first Cardinal wrestler to enter the transfer portal.
Woods put together an outstanding redshirt freshman season going 19-1, winning the Southern Scuffle, a Pac-12 title, and earning the three seed for the 2020 NCAA Championships. Coming out of high school Woods was a four-time Illinois state finalist and three-time Illinois state champion at powerhouse Montini Catholic.
It's worth noting that Woods' high school coach, Izzy Martinez, recently made a post on Instagram hinting that Woods might immediately begin his MMA career.
Fellow redshirt freshman standout, Shane Griffith, told NJ.com the following when asked what his future held, "Honestly, I don’t even know yet. I’ve got to piece it together. I’m just going to let it settle in. Right now, I’m living day to day.”
Stanford head coach Jason Borelli vowed to fight the decision.
Nothing like a little adversity and a good challenge. First we will listen to understand why. Then we will strategize and prepare for the battle! Lastly, we will execute and make this right. Let’s go @CardWrestling fans... who’s with us?
