National champion Nick Suriano has re-enrolled at Rutgers for the upcoming semester. NJ.com reported today that Suriano is now listed as enrolled in the Rutgers online directory.
Suriano won a title for the Scarlet Knights at 133 pounds in 2019 before taking an Olympic redshirt last season. Suriano placed third at the Bill Farrell International in November of 2019, and fourth at the Senior Nationals in December of 2019, both at 57kg.
Suriano qualified for the Olympic Team trials with this win over fellow NCAA champ, Darian Cruz.
Though he didn't compete, Suriano was also in Italy at the Matteo Pellicone UWW Ranking Series in January of 2020.
Suriano will likely return to 133-pounds for the upcoming NCAA season, assuming it takes place amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. With Sebastian Rivera stating his intention to go 141, Rutgers very well could have the most powerful one-two lightweight punch in college next season.
