NCAA Finalist Max Dean Transferring To Penn State
2019 NCAA finalist Max Dean is taking his talents to State College.
The back half of Penn State's lineup just got even tougher with the addition of NCAA finalist Max Dean. Max's brother Gabe confirmed the transfer on an episode of Chael Sonnen's podcast, 'Beyond the Fight'.
Gabe Dean confirms Max's move to Penn State around the 3-minute mark below.
Including a grey shirt and an Olympic redshirt year, Dean is 91-18 on the collegiate level. In 2018 the Michigan native took 8th as a freshman before making the finals as a sophomore.
“He’s at Penn State now,” Gabe said. "He’s going to be training and wrestling there.”
Dean chose Penn State over South Dakota State, Michigan, Michigan State, and others.
Since he took an Olympic redshirt in 2020 when the NCAA Championships were canceled, and this year did not count towards athletes eligibility, Dean will have at least two years of eligibility remaining at his new school. This creates a bit of a log jam at 184 lbs as the Nittany Lions have returning NCAA champion Aaron Brooks. Assuming one of them moves up to 197 lbs, that could bump 2021 All-American Michael Beard out of the starting lineup.
