Kenny Monday and Barry Davis are two of the greatest wrestlers in American history.
Monday won an Olympic gold medal in 1988 and a World title in 1989, both at 74 kg (163 pounds). Prior to that, the former Oklahoma State star reached the finals of the NCAA championships three times and won a title in 1984.
Davis was a silver medalist at the 1984 Olympics and a two-time World medalist, all at 57 kg (125.5 pounds). He was also a three-time NCAA champion for Iowa (1982-83, '85) and is the all-time wins leader for the Hawkeyes (162).
Recently, Monday -- a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma -- uncovered a bracket from junior high where he traveled to Emmetsburg, Iowa, to compete in a local tournament. He was surprised to notice that he defeated Davis 9-0.
Below is Monday's recollection of the match and how he uncovered the now historic bout with Davis.
Davis is going on the offensive by disputing Monday's claim with a video of his own. Hear what Davis had to say about the match in question.
