After winning the first national title for the Rutgers wrestling program, Nick Suriano has put his name in the transfer portal. The Rutgers graduate marked "do not contact" when putting his name in the portal.
The 4x NJ champ from Paramus, New Jersey spent the last two seasons Olympic redshirting in preparation for the 2020 Olympic Games. Suriano's bid to make the team was stifled when a positive Covid 19 test kept him out of the Olympic Trials bracket in April.
Over the past year, Suriano has primarily trained in Tempe, Arizona at Arizona State with Coach Mark Perry.
There were doubts if Suriano would return to college wrestling ever again after missing the last two seasons. Nick's entering the portal seems to indicate that that fire for NCAA glory is still there. Likely fanning the flames of that interest is the new Name Image and Likeness legislation within NCAA wrestling. This would enable Nick to profit off of his wrestling celebrity status on par with some of the biggest stars in the sport.
While many would assume Arizona State is a likely destination for Nick, it is not a foregone conclusion that he would remain in Tempe. Expect Nick to take his time and weigh all options before announcing his decision. Nick's career is as unpredictable as it has been successful, so it's hard to tell where wrestling's man of mystery will wind up.
