Another World Medalist vs Fargo Champ Bout Added To Who's Number One
2021 Cadet World bronze medalist Ava Ward will defend her #1 spot against Junior Fargo champ Brianna Gonzales at Who's Number One.
Yesterday, we announced that 2021 World bronze medalist Audrey Jiminez would be taking on 2021 Fargo champ Paige Morales at Who’s Number One. The match announcements aren’t slowing down today as we are happy to announce that 2021 Cadet World bronze medalist Ava Ward will be taking on 2021 Fargo champion Brianna Gonzales for the top spot at 100 lbs.
Alright, so Gonzales isn’t a 100% Fargo champion. In a heartwarming display of family love, she and her twin sister, Emilie, both made the finals and came out for a double forfeit, both getting their hands raised. To make it to the finals, Brianna pinned #1 seed and now #4 ranked Alex Szkotnicki.
Technical Fargo champion or not, Gonzales is extremely talented. She also won the 2021 USAW HS National Recruiting Showcase and defeated Szkotnicki in the process there as well. She’ll be wrestling with a chip on her shoulder as she took 3rd in the Women’s Nationals bracket that Ward won to make the World Team.

It took Ward three matches, but she defeated Rianne Murphy, who defeated Gonzales in the quarters, in the finals to win the World Team Spot. At the World Championships, Ward looked phenomenal going 3-1 en route to a bronze medal. The Missouri native’s only loss to came by one point to the eventual champion from India.
