5 New Opponents Replace Mongolians At Bout At The Ballpark
Five new women wrestlers will replace the Mongolian delegation which will no longer be able to compete at Bout at the Ballpark.
USA Wrestling has been notified by the Mongolian Wrestling Federation that it will not be able to attend the Bout in Ballpark, presented by Kubota, to compete against the U.S. women’s freestyle team at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on February 12.
The Mongolian women’s freestyle delegation was not able to complete the visa process in time to travel to the United States for the competition.
Based upon this development, a new card of five women’s freestyle matches has been developed, with the assistance of Wrestling Lutte Canada (which is the Canadian wrestling federation) and others.
Four talented Canadian women wrestlers will compete against Team USA, three who have been past Canadian Senior World Team members, and two who have been age-group World medalists.
Leading the Canadian contingent is 2018 World champion and 2017 World bronze medalist Justina DiStasio. She was also a 2016 University World champion and has won five Pan American Senior titles. She will face two-time Senior World Team member Victoria Francis of the USA.
Ana Godinez Gonzalez, a 2021 U23 World champion, will compete at 62 kg. Godina Gonzalez has competed on two Canadian Senior World Teams. Her opponent is 2021 World silver medalist and 2020 Olympian Kayla Miracle of the USA.
Also competing for Canada is World Team member Madison Parks at 50 kg, who was seventh in the 2021 World Championships. Parks, who has also competed on two Canadian Junior World Teams, will battle two-time Senior World Team member and two-time Junior World champion Victoria Anthony of the USA.
Competing at 57 kg is Karla Godinez Gonzalez of Canada, who was fifth in the 2019 U23 World Championships. Godinez Gonzalez currently attends Simon Fraser University, where she is ranked No. 1 at 123 pounds among NCAA women wrestlers. She will face another Simon Fraser grad, 2016 Olympic champion, 2020 Olympic silver medalist and three-time World champion Helen Maroulis of Team USA.
There will be an all-USA battle at 53 kg, where 2019 World champion and 2020 Olympian Jacarra Winchester will battle Dom Parrish at 53 kg. Parish placed third at this weight class at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials and has competed on three U23 World Teams for the USA.
The USA men’s freestyle 10-match dual meet against an International All-Star team, the international Greco-Roman challenge match, and the Oklahoma State vs. Iowa Div. I college dual meet will proceed as planned. There is also a Youth Takedown Tournament to be held from 12:00 noon – 3:00 p.m. CT at Globe Life Field.
Tickets for Bout at the Ballpark, presented by Kubota, are available at texasrangers.com/wrestling.
The event will be broadcast live by FloWrestling.
